The August issue of Marie Claire magazine highlights the risks of drinking to women in the feature, What's wrong with two glasses of wine? Three advertising agencies, Lowe Bull, Ogilvy Johannesburg and Draft FCB, showcase creative work demonstrating the negative effects that even moderate alcohol intake has on women.
“Alcohol is physiologically far more dangerous for women than it is for men,” says Kate Wilson, the magazine's editor. “We invited the three agencies to design a campaign that would raise awareness of the risks involved and get women to think twice about having another glass.”
Health-wise, women are more negatively affected by alcohol than men are. Women who drink alcohol increase their risk of developing breast cancer, suffering from infertility and are more likely to have a stroke due to alcohol consumption.
Readers are invited to vote for the campaign they think will get the message across most effectively.
In the name of publicity-seeking, Marie Claire is creating hysteria by labelling wine as a potential killer in an irresponsible and graphic way. I will definitely not be advertising my client's wines in this magazine in future. Posted on 9 Aug 2009 08:53
Wine is the healthiest alcoholic drink on the planet. Instead of making this wonderful gift from nature take the brunt of the blame for general alcohol abuse, maybe Marie Claire can do a well-researched article on the health benefits of wine. Or perhaps a comparative study to rate the degrees of possible harm/benefits between major types/categories of alcoholic beverages. Posted on 19 Oct 2009 17:25
