Rupert "the bear" Boneham - the gentle hairy giant of CBS' Survivor: Pearl Islands, and Survivor: All-Stars - jetted into Joburg International this week as a guest at 94.7's outdoor expo this past weekend and to discuss making a travel documentary on local soil.
Boneham, who received 85% of the 38 million votes cast in the All Stars series, will be taking centre stage at an 'African Tribal Council' with Jurie Van Leeuwen of the Witch & Wizard Production company, about presenting a TV travel series in South Africa.
The essence of the TV series will be created along the lines of "Rupert Meets South Africa". The format is part adventure, part nature, including cooking segments. It is about the pleasure of discovering new places, meeting local people, catching or harvesting naturally available foods, and the relevance of this in the social economic environment of the community.
The format allows for numerous sponsorship opportunities and the producers have been in discussion with South African Tourism and other Tourism support officials, who have expressed keen interest in this project.
A sum of money has been budgeted for this project and producers are in negotiations regarding copyright and distribution rights. Should the first series be well received, they would like to suggest similar series being filmed in other continents.
i think the survivor will definetly survive the local jungle, at the same time it would be very interesting if South African's would be allowed to take part and compete with the survivor, as this will give it a local flavour and people won't mind watching their friends and family competing. I believe we have beautiful places that would make the survivor survivor thing a success.
