Digital News South Africa

Put your brand into orbit

The Spacestation is a new single point of contact for advertisers and media planners to help them increase their effectiveness in engaging with online and mobile South Africans. Launched by 24.com, DStv Online and MIH Internet Africa yesterday, Thursday, 30 July 2009, it is also the mystery sponsor for the Internet Advertising category for the 2009 Loeries.

This new initiative offers multiplatform digital advertising and marketing campaign opportunities, as well as consulting and ad creative services and advice. As part of the launch, it has created a simple arcade-style game where participants can enter to win a prize consisting of a 42" plasma screen, Nintendo Wii, remotes and games for installation in their agency or place of business.

“Growing counter to the trend”

"In the face of softening ad sales among traditional media, digital is growing counter to the trend (albeit off a small base), and we plan to take this momentum to innovate and improve our offering to further grow South Africa's digital industry," says CEO Mike Luscombe.

"As clients seek to engage with the country's growing population of connected digital citizens, we see ourselves an essential part of generating and participating in conversations and engagement campaigns with different target audiences, across various devices and affiliated destinations."

Providing advertisers and media planners with a single point of access to a network of properties reaching 2.98 million South Africans each month across 97 million pages (Nielsen-online Market Intelligence Q2 2009), it caters to clients ranging from small local businesses to large international brands.

“Different levels”

"Appreciating that there are different levels of experience and understanding in South Africa among companies and agencies seeking to make the most of online and mobile consumer engagement opportunities, we see our role as partly educational, as well,” concludes Luscombe.

The Spacestation represents the brands and digital properties under the three Naspers-owned companies, 24.com, DStv Online and MIH Internet Africa. For more, go to www.thespacestation.co.za.
