Ogilvy Interactive, Isobar lead RECMA global rankings

26 Mar 2009 11:566 commentsBizLike
Research Company Evaluating the Media Agency Industry (RECMA), which has been evaluating media agencies in 50 countries, released a ranking of the interactive agencies 2008 worldwide earlier this week.
According to RECMA's report, the top-three agencies are:

  1. Ogilvy Interactive (WPP) with 3800 staff including OgilvyInteractive, OgilvyOne and Neo@Ogilvy
  2. Isobar (Aegis Media) with 3663 staff including 55 specialist agencies and Carat / Vizeum interactive integrated teams.
  3. Sapient Interactive (independent) with 2500 staff.

There follows a list of the top 25 interactive agencies extracted from the global ranking of 130 major interactive agencies.

The 150-page RECMA Interactive report includes rankings by country, by reporting status, as well as an inventory of the interactive resources of the media agency networks in 28 countries. One Excel database with details is included: the 1115 interactive agencies participating to the study.

An extract is available online to all RECMA registered members on www.recma.com.

Ogilvy Interactive CPT outsource everything-
As a client, I've dealt with Ogilvy Interactive in CPT, and later dealt with a web design company (Bottomline Interactive) who I learned did all of O.I CPT's good work, like the Audi Microsite. They are not worth using! Posted on 26 Mar 2009 12:36

Short-sighted-
That's a bit of a naive comment, Coco. In traditional above-the-line advertising, the creative teams develop the concept and hand it over to film production to be realised. However, I don't think anyone in the industry believes that the core value in that workflow lies with the film production company. The creative concept and direction is always where the agency adds value.

I don't really see the difference between that and the outsourcing model in digital advertising. If OgilvyInteractive are in control of the creative concept and direction, they are adding their value. And if they can find an outsource partner who can execute the concept, then what is the problem? Often specialist outsource companies can do the work at lower cost, and therefore the agency is actually adding more value by saving the client some money. Posted on 26 Mar 2009 14:45

I don't think so-
Well I don't think Bottom Line did all the work while I was working there, otherwise what the hell was I doing for 14 hours a day five and sometimes six days a week?

Personally I believe that, at the time that they were launched, websites like http://www.vw.co.za and http://www.weylandts.co.za raised the bar for taking your brand online in this country.

People like Creative Director Tor Hylen, Art Director Emma Carpenter and ex-Tech Director Dylan Smith are exactly the calibre of people I appreciate working with in this industry, and they are the kind of people that clients who know what to look for go after as well. Posted on 26 Mar 2009 15:49
Well Done!-
This is a fantastic result for Ogilvy. Well done. As a long standing client of Ogilvy, we are extremely satisfied with the service and quality of work that we receive from this agency. I don't think that outsourcing jobs should be an issue if the final product is of a high standard, and Ogilvy does deliver excellent creative work. Thank you. Posted on 26 Mar 2009 17:11
