NEWSWATCH: Kaya FM 95.9 confirmed earlier this week that its breakfast show host Majota "Phat Joe" Kambule was fired over controversial comments he made over Caster Semenya in September.
For more:
  • Women24.com: Phat Joe is fired! The radio station apparently received a huge number of calls, direct e-mails, SMS's, BCCSA complaints and Facebook messages from listeners who were upset by the manner in which Kambule handled the Casper Semenya issue and his comments.

Good Bye Joe-
Phat Joe was a good morning jock and held it down very well on Kaya. His comments on Miss Semenya were very irresponsible and he deserves the sacking. Well done to Greg Maloka and the team for doing the right thing!

Joe needs to learn that you can never be bigger than the medium - radio. Hopefully the other racist and big-headed presenters are watching. I thought Phat learned a lesson with SABC 1, YFM and Metro FM dismissals.

down the list-
He's clearly going down the list of stations. I can't see any sane PM employing him after this Posted on 9 Oct 2009 13:53

Joe needs a better platform-
I still think he's one of our best radio jocks, and he just needs to find a place where he could be appreciated. The move to Khaya was bad, the station has no vision and the less said of them the better. What, I ask, was wrong with what he said? I got the same question from an elderly woman here at work whom I was explaining the whole thing to. It never needed to get to where it got because people lied to us, including Caster herself. Black people have a bad tendency to want to hide things such as these and Joe is just a casualty of a society that does not want to tell the truth and who fail to see humour even when it hits them in the face. Idiots! Maybe try out at 5 Joe, at least that audience appreciates humour! Oh, then again you kinda burnt that bridge when you left their sister station Metro under a cloud. Hay' I don't know, you're still one of the best though in my books... Posted on 9 Oct 2009 14:06
Joe needs a better platform-
Please do not generalise black people and drag them to your "thinking you right" talk show. Make your sound comment and leave black people out of this. You are just not so wise to unnecessary gross critisize your own colour people (I assume you're black too) and it's not funny. Learn to love & respect yourself, when you do that, you'll be able to talk about black people with respect. Posted on 9 Oct 2009 17:46

ARE YOU GONNA FIRE THE WRITER FOR CALLING HER CASPER?-
I think it was a harsh red card for Phat Joe really. He could have been given a warning or something. I find it very unfair that some DJ's can say whatever they want and that goes without punishment...the likes of Redi Direko on her utterance about Malema lately and other racist remarks coming from 702.

It becomes a serious problem when independent radio stations become dependent, it becomes an even bigger problem when only certain people are allowed to talk about Caster. We have really sensitised her issue and now we make it a taboo.

What's wrong with Phat Joe's question? Let us not politicise everything but rather start open debates about issues of national ineterest. Phat Joe's question is far less heavy than Chuene's actions, yet guess who's fired? Posted on 9 Oct 2009 14:15

Good riddance...-
I think Kayafm used the Caster issue as a scapegoat to get rid of the loud mouth, they should have fired him long time ago. Bad Boy T here is your last chance. Phat Joe go try your luck at radio 2000 (Old Age Home) Posted on 9 Oct 2009 15:59

Stop it Guys!-
There are so mant issues we can focus on, leave this Casters issue with people who can handle it. Let focus to something else, like how to make our country right or something. Posted on 9 Oct 2009 17:09
Lele-
We are dwelling on Caster's issue because it's an active issue currently, since you have an idea of making our country better than dwelling on this, then brainstorm us..what's number 1 in your list? Posted on 9 Oct 2009 17:30

Kaya had been planning to get rid of Phat Joe for a long time-
Phat Joe was on his way out way before the Caster Semenya incident and that is the reason Tbos used to be moved to the breakfast show from his midmorning show everytime Phat Joe was not around because they were trying to prepare Tbos to host the morning show with his rotten english. Bad Boy T and Tbos must stay away from the breakfast shows because they do not have what it takes to do a morning show on radio. Posted on 11 Oct 2009 01:02
You don't know what are you are talking about chief Period!!-
Before you write anything down you must get your facts straight Baba! Managements decision to rid the station of Joe was strategic in many ways , financially and otherwise. Posted on 13 Oct 2009 09:38

Bad oy T the King of Breakfast-
I think the writer that said the 2 legends must stay away from morning Radio is mad and need his head Read. They are the best and Bad Boy is the King of Breakfast, even better that DJ Sbu. They made a good Family on the breakfast show with Lupi, Fifi and BBK. You can see that Sekgale had a gun on their heads coz now they don't just do what they are there t do they participate in the debates. For a long time you could hear that Kenny was on his own with Mr. T. So ke don't start with Thomas the King of Break Fast Posted on 15 Oct 2009 10:56
Talent not appreciated-
That was too harsh wow,the suspensio was well deserved but not the firing all good Radio Presenters at some stage has to have some controvesy and that's how the get their credebility and all good Presenters has at some stage had been fined by the ICASA, Greg that was harsh.Sadly enuff we do not have any talent left for such shows, everyone now they are going for faces rather that voices, Radio is slowly but surely diyng. I don't get it-
I just still don't get it why radio personalities get dismissed for doing what they are paid to do. Speaking of current issues. It's not like Joe was speaking of a topic that no one has touched on. Come now. Can we not engage in conversation anymore? Posted on 14 Oct 2009 10:04
