Behind the local scenes

There is no doubt that South African filmmaking and writing has taken great strides in recent years, no longer do we have to rely on Schuster slapsticks and deep political films to make an impact at the box office. Latest local film on offer is Die Ballade van Robbie de We, an Afrikaans music-themed movie. Daniel Dercksen interviews lead Marno van der Merwe for a behind-the-scenes take on the film and the industry in general.

In music news, yet more international artists head our way; latest heavy hitter to be announced is the timeless Bruce Springsteen who will be touring with the E Street Band in SA early next year, as will Canadian hardcore punk band Comeback Kid, and, keeping things heavy, British metal band Asking Alexandria have been scheduled to tour Cape Town and Joburg in May 2014.

Our trusty motoring editor Henrie Geyser reviews two new automotive releases; the recently reborn Sentra, and the cosmetically tweaked and upgraded BMW Five.

Happy week further!
