South African mountaineer to climb Everest for cancer

Robby's initiative - a Climb of Hope: Climb high for those who can't - aims to raise awareness about cancer, raise R1 million for the Cancer Association of South Africa and assist people living with cancer in achieving their own dreams and giving them chance at life.

"I am in the process of finalising sponsorship to climb Mount Everest and would like to appeal to corporate and individuals to participate in one of the greatest moments in medical and mountaineering history," says Robby.

"In order to raise funds for CANSA and fund my expedition, I will be taking a banner to the summit of Mount Everest and would like to offer South African companies the opportunity to be there on top with me."

The banner will be divided into 2880 blocks (40 x72) measuring 4cm x 5cm.

The blocks are for sale to anyone wishing to support this endeavour at a cost of R500. The more blocks a company sponsors, the more space will be allocated to the company's brand. People can also dedicate the block to a loved one or any suitable intention.

By selling all the space on the banner, an amount of R1 million will be donated to CANSA, and the rest of the money will be used to pay the expenses of his Everest expedition, to take that banner to the top of the world.

A digital replica of the banner will be available on the Climb of Hope website and each company block will be made into an interactive button linking the viewer to the sponsor's website or a downloadable version of its sponsored block. So not only will the logo or photo be taken to the top of the world, but the sponsor will also have an Internet advertisement as well.

Robby's expedition intends to inspire hope in those who have lost hope.
