Thomas and Dj Fresh are they working out?

5fm and metro DJs
While y-fm goes about its dismal decline I would like to ask one another question.
Am I the only person in the world who think that Fresh on 5fm is not working. He and Thomas (metro) must change places . I think Thomas is better able to cope with the demands of the quick thinking five audience with his wise creaks that are sometimes wasted on the metro audience. And while you are at it please retire Glen Lewis to some slot where he can just play house music to the massive late in the evening and not have to say a word. The guy is obviously battling with the English and Unathi there with him only makes the dude sound even dumber.
Lets all be honest things as they are not working out so someone \in the corridors of power get the stations together and save us from his S@#T

Dj Fresh-
I disagree with you as far as DJ Fresh is concerned. He brings the general standard of 5fm up - he and Ian and Sasha rock Posted on 27 Nov 2007 16:16
Solly Tloubatla
Just-ice rocks-
I think metro fm they should have brought back the likes of justice Ramohlola,we all know that the man was on top of his game it was just a matter of jealossy and greedyness from metro managemet.

So please give the man a good offer i dont think he can ressist the radio. Posted on 4 Dec 2007 23:11

sasha & ian f-
i agree that sasha and ian f are good, but fresh not really. Posted on 5 Dec 2007 14:57

Fresh is fab!-
I think Fresh has handled the transition superbly and definitely keeps listeners entertained! Posted on 27 Nov 2007 16:46

Diffrent Strokes for Different Folks-
Personally I dont like Unathi I think she has an irritating voice and ever since she joined the Metro drive time show they talk more than play music... but then that is just me

I'm sure thousand of listeners would disagree... Posted on 28 Nov 2007 08:25

FRESH SOUNDS A BIT "SLOW"-
Fresh has not impressed me since he's been at 5. He's not bad, however some of the comments he makes are a little ill timed and generally not very bright. Not being mean just expressing my opinion. Also, he keeps doing jokes which had been floating around on e-mail and even published in Zoo and FHM already. They take the joke, act it out in the studio and play it on air like people had NEVER heard it before. One of the key rules of radio is NEVER do e-mail jokes on air as e-mail is sginificantly quicker than you can ever be, making you look like an idiot. 5FM needs Anthony Duke to come back and whip a few of the jcks into shape. How about Macgyever (aka Macg) on Y-
I believe his english is just as bad, he can't even say a simple words such as Magic, he says mangic, and I'm told the saga goes on he is getting worse by the day, and he always justify his mispronouciation when corrected isn't this bad for the boys in the mall. I believe he couldn't says winds the other day he said wyins. Posted on 28 Nov 2007 11:14
Dj Fresh on 5 - ROCKS..-
DJ fresh is doing a fantastic job on 5 and for 5!!!

The man in the mirror-
Jayc, maybe you need to check your own mistakes first before pointing fingers. I had to keep going back to the beginning of the sentence to understand what you are trying to say... or is it says? Posted on 28 Nov 2007 13:47
Jayc
I have no doubt you need 5 more mirror!-
If you read that! you'll understand the comment it goes! he cannot even say a simple word such as Magic he says: mangic!!!!! what is so difficult about this or even sinnister? and mind you this comes from people who are concern about the state of broadcasting @ Y not even me, I don't listen to Y hence I said I'm told that this person has a problem or do you need help in understanding this message aswell? use windowlene to clean your mirror as I think it seem a bit hazey!!! Posted on 29 Nov 2007 11:14
The man in the mirror-
Jayc, again your comment is full of grammatical and spelling errors, and yet you think you have a right to criticize Macg for his bad English.
When I said the man in the mirror I was talking about you. Look again! Posted on 30 Nov 2007 13:56

Stop it now-
Hay guys stopping pointing fingers now, the other 3 are pointing your way. Say something constructive, even if it's critism, if you don't have, then let it flow.
As for Glen, I just stick to his music! Posted on 1 Feb 2008 15:43

Glenzito must go!!!-
I mean his time has long gone. I agree he needs some space somewhere to play music, not talking and we don't even have to see him. His voice reminds me of the eighties and Radio Thohoyandou. I always change the station if by any chance happen to hear his voice on radio. I wonder how he keeps bouncing back on Metro, with his irritating voice and rural English. Posted on 28 Nov 2007 16:39

Fresh a much better candidate for Metro-
The power of the Dj Fresh brand was not only driven by his on air presence, but also by his Djing and his music initiatiatives.

@ YFM he was brilliant becasuse he was touching his target market in more three ways( CDS, radio, live perfomances) and no matter what the project YFM's brand was always alligned.

I have hard time listening to fresh, not because of his personality or on air presence, its mostly the music genre that keeps me changing the Dial Posted on 28 Nov 2007 16:45

Fresh 5FM!-
DJ Fresh is amazing & brings a (hate to say it) breath of fresh air to the airwaves. I am, however, flabbergasted as to why that dumbwit Elana Afrika is still on air. I have yet to hear a single intelligent sentence to come out of her mouth. The only reason why we listen to her show is to wait for the next stupid thing she going to say about the topic of the hour. Unfortunately, I think this makes her annoyingly compelling...maybe this is the only reason for having her on? Posted on 29 Nov 2007 10:51
Lungstaarr
Couldn't have phrased it better. Thx Michelle.-
I've been wondering for a while now about Elana Afrika. She has a grating voice. She says some of the daftest things I've heard on the radio in a long time. The only reason she is on air is because, as you put it "annoyingly compelling". Thanks for allocating the correct wording to what has been an incesantly stabbing thorn on my side.

As for Dj fresh, I never listened to him when he was on Yfm but on 5 he is atleast engaging. He has the right personality for a drive show and his show is interesting to listen to most of the time.

Another question. Why is Monde kapa still on the radio? I have never heard such inepteness and blatant self promotion on the radio. Monde, hamba kapa. Posted on 29 Nov 2007 15:19

We should start a list of daft Elana quotes-
My favourate daft Elana moment was this week coming out of one of Reuben Goldberg's news bulletin's by saying... "thanks Reuben, that was nice"... Since when have news bulletins describing blood shed and the possibility of JZ becoming president become quote-un-quote "NICE"??? Posted on 30 Nov 2007 19:37

Glen,Eddie & Wilson their time is up!-
Guys I think Glen,Eddie & Wilson should have left Metro years ago and make room for the new talent. What do u think? Posted on 30 Nov 2007 15:33

DAFT ELANA MOMENT #49-
My favourite moment has got to be with the whole Manto saga (liver/thiefing/general drunken & disorderly) and Elana told 5FM listeners (who were calling in) to leave Manto alone and to give her (Manto) a break. Reuben was speechless. She then proceeded to talk about some handbag she had just bought. Come on, 5fm bosses?!!! Do you actually listen to your own radio station?! I think it's a great idea to start a Stupid Elana Statement forum...let me know who's interested?!! Posted on 1 Dec 2007 13:58
ELANA COMMENTS-
I LOVE the idea of starting an Elana stupid comment list. I reckon we can start it on Facebook and probably build up a huge member list in no time. teh woman really does not appear to be very bright. Posted on 3 Dec 2007 08:59
Lungstaarr
Tempting idea, But!-
For us to start this "daft Elana forum", we would have to listen to her show. Frankly I cannot stand listen to the woman. Starting this forum also means inadvertantly making the woman more famous than she already is. Facebook groups spread like wildfire. I bet, Elana would love it if a facebook group about her popped up. She would go as far as joining, that's how daft she is. Posted on 3 Dec 2007 16:39

Foul Fresh-
That DJ Fresh needs someone to wash his mouth out with soap. He has the worst vocabulary on South African radio and is constantly swearing on air. Why the BCCSA has not yet taken him off air is an important question. Is it just another example of the apathy that pervades our country and keeps us in the continual cycle of declining standards, violence, crime and racist policies?

The kind of disrespectful and vulgar language this guy uses on air should not be tolerated, and would not have been 15 years ago. Posted on 4 Dec 2007 09:46
Lungstaarr
You said it yourself, "15 years ago".-
Move on brother Cyril,Springbok radio died along with apartheid. Posted on 4 Dec 2007 13:11
Cyril
ho hum springbok-
It has nothing to do with apartheid, (which is still with us by the way, ever heard of BEE?)just good manners. It is not cool at all to talk as badly as he does. Your 'move on' comment implies that the slipping of standards is ok. Its not.

Oh, and FYI, I'm squarly within radio 5's target age goup, Posted on 4 Dec 2007 14:59
Lungstaarr
Are you Elana Afrika ,Cyril?-
You seem quite daft. Frankly, you are boring me. BEE? Go to the whites only toilet. The End. Posted on 4 Dec 2007 15:08

Shame if you are!-
Best you go back to listening to Radio 2000, Cyril. Fresh is just that...Fresh!!! He's funky, vibey, loves his wife and idolises his son. He is witty, intelligent (can you spell that, Elana?!) and interesting to listen to. 5FM are LUCKY to have him...and so are we :) Cyril, put your teeth back in and turn up your hearing aid. Life is happening all around you and it's not censored. Fresh is a family man, and quite frankly in this day and age...THAT is to be respected. Peace out. Posted on 4 Dec 2007 16:44

Radio 5?!-
Cyril...my man?! If you are in the target market, as you say you are...why on earth are you still referring to our beloved 5FM as Radio 5?! Be honest now...is your name really Elana? Posted on 4 Dec 2007 16:50

5?-
uhm, sorry, whats the difference between calling it 5fm and radio 5?? Posted on 5 Dec 2007 14:45

Listened to Elana this Morning!-
Someone requesting a song via email, actually referred to Elana as funny. Elana actually read this email out on air. She was trying to silence her critics I guess. The email wasn't that far from the truth. Elana is hilarious, so hilarious that she believed the email was genuinely from a fan. This woman is profoundly oblivious of her abilities or the lack thereof. A truely compelling radio idiot. The saga continues under Carlito's nose. Posted on 5 Dec 2007 14:51
Lungstaarr
A huge difference John!-
Ever heard of branding? Here is another obvious fact for you John. 15 years ago "Radio 5", currently 5fm.

Elana keeps popping in here using names of the innocent. From Cyril to John now. The Ramaphosa and the Langford families must be pissed off. Posted on 5 Dec 2007 14:59

Tomato NOT Tomayto / Potayto NOT Partarto-
Langstarr...thank you for setting the record straight regarding branding! Back in the 80's, I sooooooo remember listening to Martin Bailey and Tony whatisname on Radio 5. It's 20 years later. It's 5FM. Finish & Klaar. Oh Elana, honey, you're not funny. Fresh is funny :) We love Fresh! In fact...Fresh for President!!! Posted on 5 Dec 2007 17:04

ELANA-
Elana is EXACTLY what's wrong with SA radio these days. Some dimwitted people who are pretty enough to extend the station's branding by appearing on TV shows, magazine covers etc. who are allowed to spew the most incomprehensible rubbish with complete impunity. She (and a few others on the station) add nothing but irritation and I personally consider their voices to be the biggest "switch off" factor when listening to radio. 5FM needs the Anthony Duke to come back and sort out this nonsense. Turned on...turn off....-
Was addicted to Rockstar Supernova on Channel GO on DSTV, still am (when it comes back on, once the DSTV bosses realise that Miss Teen USA, Miss USA and Miss UNIVERSE are not as good as watching Dave Navarro judge the huge talent that is actually out there) BUT...Elana presented the IDOLS Extra on GO a few minutes before Rockstar. If you thought Elana was irritating on Radio, try watching her present a live TV show. She really personified the "cringe factor"...do you think anyone has ever told her? Posted on 6 Dec 2007 18:08

If you thought Elana was bad...-
If you guys thought that Elana was bad you should listen to YFM jocks, I think the management of the station are on a campaign to spread ignorance amongst the youth. You guys only single out Elana but at Y it has to be 90% of the DJs

They should call it Daily Sun Radio, it used to be entertaining now its crap.

About Fresh, I think he is okay at 5 but i dont listen to him, I have never been a big fan of 5FM music Posted on 15 Dec 2007 14:20

I though Zuraida was bad, but Elana takes the cake!-
I thought Zuraida "I love self-promotion/goldigger" Jardine was the worst DJ to hit the airwaves. She only spoke about herself and her rich husband on air.It was a relief when they took her off air.My relief was short-lived...Elana was her replacement.Does she honestly think we care about what she ate for breakfast and her shopping trips? Posted on 30 Dec 2007 21:36
Radio Fan
DJs are becoming posers, they don't know music anymore-
I have to disagree with you Amy, Elana Africa is bad but Zuraida Jardine was without a doubt the worst DJ ever. Her shameless self-promotion on air was terrible and the last time I checked, DJing is not about FHM interviews and trying to get on TV- It's about the music and talking sense on air.

I was so thankful when Jardine left, but now I hear that she fancies herself so much that she is trying to make it big in Hollywood. She didn't care about radio, she just wanted to get famous anyway and anyhow.

Its a shame what DJ's have turned into.At least there are people in the profession that still have a passion for music- albeit a handful.

I have much respect for Fresh,Bad Boy T,Alex Jay,Ian F,KayB,Nicole Fox and Barney Simon- for keeping it real.

As for the rest of the posers pretending to be DJ's, the public isn't stupid you WILL be exposed. Posted on 31 Dec 2007 13:11

No no no! Elana is THE worst...-
Today 5fm listeners had to hear countless times how many time she was nearly frenchkissed (X3 times) when she got to work...all her colleagues who wanted to wish her happy new year. Her poor boyfriend (if she has one) has to also listen to that drivel. DO WE CARE who wanted to kiss her?! I don't, that's for sure, which is why I have now petitioned that we in the office listen to something else. Can't handle that chick anymmore... Posted on 3 Jan 2008 14:25

If its to vulgar listen to something else- we like it!!!-
I disagree- Fresh's show rocks-he isnt scared to tackle issues and speak his mind. If YOU find it to vulgar than maybe KAKaranda fm of highveld r more ur speed. Posted on 9 Jan 2008 10:58

A petition is not a bad idea-
We should petition 5fm to kick her off, bombard them with calls and emails telling them how crap she is! Posted on 9 Jan 2008 11:00
Mash
So let's start one...!-
who else is interested?!! i can honestly say that i have not listened to her show since the beginning of January '08. I consider myself to be a little more intelligent than that! Better still, let's petition the big guns at M-NET as it appears she will be hosting some show of theirs. Why, oh, why does she have so much exposure? Help me to understand. Is it that SA is so starved for celebrities that they will try to make one out of those with the most exposure instead trying to give serious talent a chance...and we DO have the talent in this country. So the forum wasn't headed "Elana" but who cares?! What happened to being open-minded to paradigm shifts? If people weren't so uptight about being politically correct, the world would be a far better place to live in. Loosen up...puhlease! Posted on 30 May 2008 14:29

Boosting each others ego?!-
huh?! so now that two people actually agree on something...that's bad?! come on...how old are you...whoever you are...we are commenting on how to improve radio in this country to appeal to all south africans, and you diss that? we are not here to personally discredit anyone on this forum and i would trust that you would have the maturity not to do so again. Fresh, yes; Thomas, no!-
Fresh is just fine. I think he was always an all rounder type of dj who is appreciated across the age/colour lines.

Thomas needs to get his groove back. He grew up too fast. He still has that young spirit in him, but I don't blame him for sticking with the "older" alternative. There is nothing to go back to at Yfm. What can a brother do, where will he go to get his grove back? Maybe 5fm should give him a call. Posted on 19 Jan 2009 08:05
