This year truly has been the year of the app. With iPhone, Android and tablets becoming the gadgets of the future, apps have exploded onto the scene with pretty much everything you could ask for.
Games, news, marketing, social networking, photography and more are available either free or paid for in app stores, and the more the merrier! No doubt next year will see a whole new breed of apps, but in the meantime here are some of the top apps of 2013.

MyEdit - The latest app from Media24 provides content from top magazines and newspapers in South Africa like Die Burger, Beeld, YOU, Finweek and more. The app recommends content depending on your reading patterns for something interesting to read every day.

Telmap - With over 1 million subscribers in South Africa, the navigation app has proved extremely popular. The mobile app provides in-depth location details and is especially useful for advertisers wishing to display their stores and services.

Zite - One of the top aggregation apps available on iPad, provides up to date and constant news depending on your selected interests. The app is also excellent for sharing on Twitter as it shortens the url for you.

Bookly - Native created this app for Mxit for the majority of youngsters who can't afford e-readers and tablets. This easy to use educational app currently has 266 books and will soon contain textbooks as well for students wishing to brush up on their studies.

Evernote - One of the top 'reminder' apps of the year helps you remember important dates and meetings. It allows you to take down notes, record voice reminders, and provides an easy to use system to navigate through. You just have to remember to open Evernote..

Snapscan - Purchasing goods just got a whole lot easier! The smartphone app works by scanning the code with your phone's camera, which will bring up the store, put in the four digit code and pay. Each store has a unique SnapCode which is linked to their bank. The SnapScan app was awarded Best App of the Year award at the MTN Business App of the Year Awards.
