5 Apr 2005 12:13124 commentsBizLike
For the first time in South Africa a popular television show will hold auditions for women across the country in search of a talented new TV personality to join the show.
The SABC's magazine programme Motswako, in conjunction with Ponds, are offering one talented woman the opportunity to appear on Motswako as its new presenter. The winner will also receive R50 000 and be registered with a leading casting agency.

The Ponds/SABC TV Presenter Search runs until September 2005 when the winner will be announced on Motswako.

Viewers will have the opportunity to voice their opinions about the new presenter by voting for their favourite finalist during the on-air auditions. Viewers also stand a chance of winning R10 000 in the viewers' competition.

Great... Now just tell us where the auditions are, so we can show that "fake american accented, oh I can“t speak Setswana properly" bimbette Carol a thing or two... Posted on 6 Apr 2005 18:30

Annoying!!-
What a great initiative - Perhaps we'll finally get a true South African girl without a fake irritating English accent. Kgomotso I'm talking to you, wake up girl, be proud of who you are and stop this annoying thing you're doing on national TV (South African National TV for heavens sake!!! Posted on 12 Apr 2005 13:28

I agree-
I thought i was the only person who has a problem with Carol. I am a Tswana, and I know for a fact that she used to speak tswana properly coz she was an actress on a Tswana drama a couple of years back. So what happened between then and now, is beyond me. I speak my English with an accent, i admit, but I speak my Tswana like a Tswana. I can't even stand the show currently because i get embarrased on her behalf, and frankly she is irritating. This is a great opportunity to get someone who is proud of their culture, language and heritage to present ideas which are relevant to south african women. Posted on 27 Apr 2005 16:12

...everyone's a critic...-

stumbling across this feed
reading comments till my eyes bleed,
why the constant need for people to degrade the joy of others,
i don't understand your pettiness, please...
as real as this life gets,
it gives you the choices,
to dress how you want,
to use your accents in many voices
it's called having fun with living
something people seem to be forgetting
when the latest trend is shifting
all this wasted energy
is plain & simple, just resisting...
i speak in tongues
when people wanna listen
impossible to ignore
im like a cancer in your system
69, 5419, the shinjuku effect
analysing mental planes
between hemispheres right and left.
I met the depth of Carol's character,
seen her love through her eyes,
so its kinda difficult for me to understand
why so many people seem to despise...

when the day is done and your life has passed over
only a handful of people will be left with cold shoulder
as i get older
my words get bolder
problem being that others
try to censor my actions
like a peace soldier...

Carol keep on, keeping on...do what brings YOU joy and happiness in your life, everyone else can get bent...
trying to imitate, trying to hate...
wasting energy on childish tendencies,
is this South Africa's ill-tempered fate?

much love & respect.

being successful does not mean lose your identity. To all Black women who have made it to the top we are proud of you and look up to you. But you disappoint us when you forget where you come from.Noleen and Noxolo we are very proud of you.you are true examples of Black African women.the world would have been a better place if we had more women like you. Requirements for a new presenter-
Exciting, exciting! But maybe more details should be made available e.g. between what ages are you looking at, required languages, venues & dates for auditions (are you going to all regions?) etc. Otherwise I am excited and looking forward to this. Posted on 7 Apr 2005 08:52
Where are the Auditions?-
Wow, I bet whatever channel's planning this one is in for one hell of a ratings sore!! I can only imagine the rigorous tests the applicants are gonna get comin to em. Which leads me to the obvious question, where and when are the auditions gonna be held?

I mean is it strictly for the ludicrous, hilarious and down right wannabe Playa's and Playettes or can a half breed-PomBok like me apply too ; )

Ohh yea, I was kinda curious to know if this is gonna be an annual thing or whether it's more of a trial in terms of the second series.

BIMBETTE CAROL-
Some people don't know when to talk and to keep quiet. If Carol is a bimbette, i think that it's her choice. I don't know why some people enjoy keeping others down instead of lifting them up by showing them their wrongs.

Carol honey, if you feel good about what you are doing then go on. If being a bimbette makes you feel wonderful, carry on.

To those who doesn't know what to say or who doesn't have anything to say, please shut up! Posted on 7 Apr 2005 09:51

We will kick Carol's fake accent out of that show-
At times Mpho, do not look at what negativity is behind whatever is being said try to analyse. When we talk Carol we talk about someone who is an example to the youth, a black woman representing black woman. Sad but true, South Africans are slowly moving away from their culture, black people are too westernised. I went to a Model C school, and unfortunately today I cannot properly read my mother tongue, and I am not proud of it. I am Xhosa by the way and to listen to Noxolo Grootboom reading news and at times getting confused and not understanding her does not make me feel good. And today at 27 I am taking Xhosa lessons, and I plan to write a book in Xhosa.

I guess what the other lady was trying to say is that we need to relate to her. I am black and damn I can't relate to that woman and I am pretty sure no white person can relate to her either, because you just cannot understand whom she is trying to get through because it is just not black, white, indian nor coloured persons. Where does she belong with her unfound accent??. I guess we want to see more of Noleen Maholwana Sangqu, women who are not ashamed to say where they come from women who are still proud of who they are, we want to see more of Noxolo Grootboom, Felicia Mabuza Suttle,we need people to speak the English language and not decorate it in stupid, poor accents.

You may marry interracially but do not lose your pride, roots, your self in the process. Damn the woman does not eat Mogodu, she claims she cannot stand up to the smell, how the hell did she grow up eating, I feel sorry for her parents if they heard she said she can't speak or understand Sesotho, I can imagine her saying that in that stupid accent. Another thing that marriage of hers will never last why?? that white man wanted a black woman someone to cook Mogodu for him, he was attracted to that, thing is our sisters become white instead of staying black as it attracted their man. If their man wanted a white woman they would have gone for them. Stay grounded at be proud of who you are.

To me Carol Bouwer is a disgrace to South Africa, I can't imagine the shock Will Smith had when she spoke to him with that squeeky voice.

To finish, she needs to get in touch with herself rather urgently, the woman is lost. Posted on 8 Apr 2005 11:38

I Wonder how would they go about this-
I wish they(organisers)could listen to you Pearl. But the truth is they are looking for another "coconut". For the thing to be funded needs a black woman. "In the name of woman empowerment let there be coconuts". I wish they could go to Natal, E Cape, I bet they will find beautiful girls who had never felt "white" in their entire lives. Who just speak acceptable english for us to get the point.

Pearl, I'm definately not gonna tie a knot with a black woman if this "you go girl thing" is a mission to create more "coconuts". I'm sure you will agree withme if I say a white woman is far better than Carol or let's say a fake white woman who in the name of black woman empowerment, shine(that's the reason they get these jobs, to represent black woman)

I woul like to see a woman who look excacly like my mother. Naturally beautiful, proudly Zulu, and yet so intelligent to raise a man like me. I wonder what these "coconuts" will say to their kids. "Baby, we are 'white people', the thing is, God ran out of white paint that's why He painted us with a black paint".

It is so sad, Pearl! Posted on 8 Apr 2005 17:01

It's unbelievable - I am so embarrased-
I have been reading these comments and I am disgusted. You know what negetivity will destroy you and it will take you anywhere. I can't believe that you could say things like that about Carol. You proudly South Africans have you really looked at yourselves. Who are you to judge her. I don't understand why women waste time bringing down other women. After years of apartheid we have freedom to express ourselves and fighting for our rights and now the enemy is among us. We are all unique in our own ways and if you think Carol is a coconut take out that wig you are wearing, lipsticks and don't relax your her and be the so called proudly South african. I feel so sorry for you guys because in these day we leave in it's really expensive to point fingers because when pointing all four fingers are pointing at you. I like the way she speaks and sometimes i try to giggle like her I think her accent is cute.
I believe that when some people are feeling sad inside they tend to try and make others feel the same. It becomes a mission to them to belittle others i guess in a strange way it makes them happy. Women stop it it's embarrasing we have to stand together no wonder still women are not in senior positions as men cause they gossip. You proudly South Africans what happened to the saying " If you don't have anything nice to say about the person just shut up".
You need help. We don't need people like you in this country i wish you could all be thrown in an island somewhere no wonder we are not going anywhere.
I suggest you seek help professional help you are one of those rotten potatoes that spoils the whole bag.
Who are you to know what attracted Carols husband from her maybe it was the same accent you are raving about now. Her marriage will last forever and ever and she is still gonna be in this industry for a long time her last day on earth will be her presenting. Presenters are not role models they are human they make the same mistakes you make. How about making your mother your role model. How can someone be a role models when you only see her for an hour once a week.
You don't even know her! Damn! You must be one of those women who carry muti at work.

We will kick Carol's fake accent out of that show-
Well Betsy Davis, trust me I have been on television more than you would probably want to even listen to but again I won't bore you with that. Some of us have greater ambitions than really imitating Carol Bouwer, my dear, truth is I am not even near being jealous of her I guess I have achieved and still am achieving in and out of television and in fact if I have to be on television I would want to have an impact, like really focusing on service delivery, we are in a country where television should be playing a role in educating, awareness, etc. my so called touch accent, thank you for actually noticing it because in the industry I am in it is core. Critising Bouwer should only make her aware of any faults she might have and grow from there people do need to be critised to remove them from comfort zones and start thinking, and stop acting like bimbos, she needs to work hard on getting ratings for the show, and if she is not careful I have groomed girls that would kick her out of there, girls who are strategists, girls who think on their feet, ambitious, who would change the direction of the show altogether, before I confuse you Davis, you are probably a wanna be, life is not fair my dear at all, concentrate rather on yourself and what you are doing logging on to this site do you want to sit next to Bouwer or do you want to be a shield to everyone that is being positively critised or you have greater plans, well again that is your decision. Pearl....you sure are smoking now!-
This explains why you are so bitter, I read your message I can't help noticing how furious you are, what happened did you get fired for bad accent, acatually I didn't notice it untill you made me aware that you had aksent, if you are good why are you not there and she is still firing with her fake accent, wait the husband created an opportunity for her..Doh!!!!! with her fake accent....who are you to judge and correct people is this what you do during your spare time since you don't have a job any more be carefull I could be your boss and you are using my time and money to loggin in the net remember we pay the service provide incase Mss perfect you are not aware, because you are just so busy checking people mouths as to how they say things....I wonder? you sound like a very unhappy human being, and who are these people you want to create awareness to, to join you in critising those who do better them, I'm so glad that I don't know, and I'm sure that your producers are very happy and stressless since you left.
Get alive and leave Carol Mogale Bouwer alone, keep on selling those fish and chips I'll come by one day and be one of your customers.incidetally I like my new name betsy....I'm lovin' It, eat your heart out. Posted on 12 Apr 2005 15:05

DAMN PEARL-
Damn girl! Why are you so bitter? What exactly did this woman do to you? Because I could swear she did something to you,the way you're fuming! What makes you think that Carol is doing the show specially for you? Just because you don't like her or her accent for that matter it doesn't mean that the whole world doesn't like or it must stop liking her.I don't see it anywhere in the constitution that it says South Aricans must speak in a certain way to show that they are South Africans.I know though that the constitution allows us a freedom of choice, freedom of speech(without deforming anybody's character) and so forth and so forth. So what is this pettyness about? I know for a fact that there are people who do not like 1or2 things about you but as a lady and an educated one for that matter you should'nt be throwing barberic acts/remarks wheneva it suits you. You need to calm down, compose yourself & behave like a lady... Posted on 8 Sep 2010 05:06

While I agree with you don't categories people, you have a good Idea why don't venture into it, or are you waiting for someone to come up with the Idea, why don't approach Carol that's if you know her, and bring this Idea to her attention, she does have the resources, and infrastructure at her disposal, failing talk to someone else, there's no need for anyone to be criticising if you are not going to do anything about it, prove it to those you believe have been in toxicated by lord knows what, but do a good job, for you to judge any one it only shows your in ability to take initiative.....and dear write with small letter it comes across more friendlier....the caps than' is like you are ready to chock someone.... Criticism-
People who likes to criticise probably has low selfesteem and PHD(pull-her-down) syndrome. You need to get a life and have a better vision. You probably have a negative attitude to this-remember your attitude determine your attitude obviously you won't grab that opportunity. Live your life. Posted on 12 Apr 2005 13:49
Bettie Davis
Portia you took the words out of my mouth! Pearl I'm sure you are not a bad person!-
I hope that Pearl will read this, it's fine to have your say but becarefull how you say it, what you say about someone might just be your own reflection, more so you cannot claim to be any one's child's role model when you say negative things about other people, remember someone once said "you got to be kind to the growing mind our little Brother and Sister are watching and listening to us", I dont expect anyone who is going to say nasty things about anyone to claim to be teaching my child, or any child for that matter, there's only one thing you ae doing that is spreading hatred let us use this media to change people's perceptions...and generate a positive energy to prevent the sort of desersters we are faced with today, let
's keep our feet firm on the ground as Black women and move forward holding hands.....saying nasty things only demostrates our lack of self esteem Posted on 14 Apr 2005 09:26

You are such an expect you seem to have a whole of time in your hand, and stop yuppying! about how you are going to be on tv what are you going to present tv ongomqibelo?....smile! or change all those Afrikaan speaking producer's accent to stop speaking english with afrikaans accent, you sure have the guts! just find a job stop telling us about your achievement like you the only one who has something to show I might more then you, you know you believe that all these people who are making comment are nothing only you matter they didn't attend model c's just lahleka and don't come back from whatever amaplaasine you come from I dont want to know, that explains why you are so upset, you were privieledge to attend the so called model c and now you think you the only one, we are not from your home town therefore you cannot even begin to say we must sound like you...we are happy the way we are I love carol I've known her since she was only 14 when she started her acting career you probably just met her that's if you know her, and if you declare yourself a friend I got to tell you this you are some friend, I know her so well, and she has never sounded direffent to me..so from autie betsy get alive go back to whereever. A difference between jealousy and criticism-
While everyone is entitled to their opinion, people must be careful not to be obviously jealous of Carol. Her accent may leave much to be desired for some, but it's how she chooses to express herself.Criticising and suggesting a rational alternative is better than comparing her to other celebrities who have their own flaws or even worse, making insultive remarks. In Zulu we say "Alikho isoka elingenasici"...loosely translated this means no one is perfect.

Talking fake, how many of us wear fake hair, nails, lashes and go around with eyebrows drawn way towards the ears? Clean your house first before looking at the next person.

As for the competition, we are looking forward to it and will certainly give it a go! Posted on 10 May 2005 10:57

hi everyone, i agree and share the feeling of the first lady who just commented here. I left my country to study to Europe 4 years ago. Coming back to my family I have decided to take Xhosa classes because all nthese 4 years i never be able to communicate with my people, and now my mother toungue is so hard to understand for me. however my point is that we should be careful of loosing our identity and fall on the hands of our enermies again to be "good slaves".

People have different upbringings.-
It may be true that Carol is not as "black" as some people would expact her to be. She is however what she presents herself to be. People may mis interprete who and what she is. She has become a role model to many young women and girls the way she is. That she can not speak Sesotho does not mean that she is less "black" it does not begin to say she is lost.

The roots of a person go deeper than the language that the people speaks. The language and culture are what make part of the roots of a person. Different people like to do different things for different reasons. That Carol does not eat Mogodu for whatever reason that is her option. That does not mean to say that she will have a bad marriage. Never have there been people that marry to share just one part of their lives especially food. What brought Carol and Mr Bouwer together will keep them together.

When people are being critical of other people there should be fare arguments and substantiated comparison of people. People are born different, have different dreams and different values. It is thus not fare to expact people to act in a certain manner regarding the way other people live their lives. We should begin to celebrate what makes us different because that is what makes people unique. Different upbringing styles trigger different attitudes towards life.

Carol uncomfortable in her own skin-
Hear hear Pearl...U have taken the words out of my mouth. What a fool she must look to white people, aspiring to be more like them and running away from what she is.I hate to think what her child is being taught.heck, there is nothing wrong with the smell of Mogodu. In fact it is a delicacy of note. She will yap about her sushi and how wonderful it is.What the hell was she surviving on before sushi became the buzzword!!!We need more Basetsanas in SA because they can speak English with a clean, undiluted accent and still get thei point accross. She makes a mockery of our parents who could only make do with Mogodu, Phuthu and Inkomazi and the likes.I grew up eating all that(add pork trotters, skopo and all to that list) and I am not ashamed to say it.I am a woman with a good head on her shoulders and that is all that should count at the end of it, not how many pairs of shoes I have in my closet. We are trying to mobalise south african women and are advocating that we be taken seriously by all.Now tell me if her behaviour does not take away from that exercise. You want to be taken seriously and then u go on and on about trivial stuff that really does not enrich the lives of women in any way. What will her telling me about her 600 pars of shoes do for me?She needs to look around her and appreciate that it is okay to be black. something is terribly wrong with u Pearl. I know quite a few black people who cannot handle mogodu, malana and stufff like that, and that does not make them any less Black. my sister Carol has made an effort to be where she is, just live with it or get a life Posted on 27 Sep 2007 16:07

stop judging carol, she's doing what she likes and she's happy with that-
i think you are jelous of carol because she has succeded in life. yourself you can't speak your own language and taking lessons on you language is a disgrace, it means your parents wanted to be white and that is why you can't speak your language. what language did your parents use at home if you can't speak Xhosa. please stop judging other people and start judging your parents for not teacing you your language. call it fake if you like...she's cool-
common now, being black is not defined by your accent...i believe it goes beyond that. Carol grew up in Soweto and she speaks very good Setswana le Sesotho. People don't marry so as to cook mogodu, she hates mogodu...big deal. ke motswana and i hate ting, i go through the stress of relaxing my hair and getting burnt, should i feel less black. HELL NO!!! we are quickly becoming like americans who diss brothers that marry white sisters. Posted on 19 Mar 2008 11:57

It's a Race. Finish Well!-
I for one dont think liking Mogodu means you are more or less African. its a like or dislike. I hate Vetkoek and my sister loves it. and i love bone soup, and my sister says she wont eat dog food.
Judgments about what makes you black, African or Xhosa are really a waste of energy and time.
Nelson Mandela. Would you say he is a real Xhosa man or African man or just that he is an exemplary leader, a global thinker, a man of great stature?
Let Carol be - if she is comfortable being the way she is, great. I would say she is being who she is.
Who am i? I am someone who is going to change the world. my relevance is not subject to where i was born, raised or what i eat - its what i have to offer.
If a Xhosa book is what you have to offer, great - go for it. I say live out your destiny, no matter who its going to piss off or please.
Carol - i believe, believes in what she is doing, and who she is, whether people approve or disaprove.

Accents?
Well maybe if i had a tv show you would have soemthing to say to me too.
My accent changes when i am speaking to my English Director - and it becomes more learned and it changes when i am telling the taxi driver 'short left'!
why?
i dont know - but i cant help it!
my brother said its Wisdom!
Carol - i didnt hear the accent, nor did i hear the interview - but really, to get upset over that.....PETTY!
focus on yourself sister, your growth and leave people be. write that book, change and build minds. impact society.
all of this will fold one day and we hope that you have completed your assignment as given to you by God the Father when Jesus Christ returns.

Be eternally minded and focus on your own race. and plan to finish well. This here is just a distraction.
God bless you! Posted on 4 Jul 2008 11:45

We will kick Carol's accent out of this show-
Carol probably is nOt the probLem here. The problem lies with our own people (non whits), who does not seem to take pride in their very own existance, left alone treat the ladies and kids with respect.

A lot of non white people lack self pride and self respect and hence that very problem they lack the ability of treating their very own, lovers, wives and families with the respect they deserve, and all of this boils down to the fact of not being proud of who they are, based on the various non loving and sick backgrounds errupted from.

When was the last time you saw a non white man assisting a stuggling lady with parcels to her car without cashng in on this opportunity, grabbing her bag and run with it.
When was the last time that a non white manager treated each and every non white staff member with the leveel of faked respect and dignity he would treat the white counterparts with. And
all of this have nothing to do with poverty. I have a very poor background myself, and for this reason happen to be a working class citizen of this country, born and raised on this SA soil.
Most noN whites are just sell-outs, they reach management level and then see it fit to treat their very own like dirt, thus advancing and treating their white counterparts with high levels of respect on the other hand abuse nad ill-treat their vry own if granted the opportunity to do so.

All of this sickens me to the core of my stomach, but it is a reality that most of us still want to protect and not want to acknowledge, as it is a shame to expose your black brotheer or sisiter likee this. I have seen how most of whites have the ability to treat each other with the utmost level of respect regardless of the differences that there may be amongst them and yet our non whites cannot seem to do this to their own at all.

For this very reason do we have the current gross human rights violations that currently exist in the rest of Africa, flourishing without any intervantions, as the motto is "how dare I challenge my brother of his wrong doings in public" What will my white counterparts think of me if I do this? By doiing this at the same time feeding the ugly moster to grow and be past on form generation to generation, as long as it dos not get exposed to the world and the white counterparts. Ever thought of what they think if you go about opressing your very own people? watching them starve to death without feeling any sense of guilt? And when the deed is done we turn to the onlookers for help, only to grab the loot and use it against our vey own black brothers to advance our ill begotten, selfish, gready hidden agendas at the cost of the very poor. Then we have the odasitty to cal Carol wrotten, whilst the majority of us buy into gross human violations without butting an eye lid? Shame on you!!! put a lid on it if you have nothing good to say about Carol.

Leave Carol alone, maybe she is just trying to camouflage the shame she have been exposed to for so many years. It takes a lot to have someone take pride in the gross human violations that they are acustomed to from a very young age.

It all starts with loving your very own people first and treating them with a very high level of respect and dignity and see where this will take you. Non white people need to change their ways in how they treat each other in every way, even in times when they have differences amongst each other.

carol bower,silly snob wannabe-
i think carol is just a silly little girl who thinks she's almighty. Incase she forgot, she grew up a poor girl so what;'s wrong with that? you can't change the past but the future and by that i don't mean become a 'white chick' wannabe. And this Mugodu issue, now that really ticks me off. I'll definately take it as an offence for us Mugodu lovers. be yourself, take it easy, life is too short to be someone else. just go find yourself a quiet place and hang yourself with your accent. Carol an inspiration to black women-
Oh please, whoever you are commenting about Carol's fake accent, I think you are just saying this out of jelousy. If you can't say something good about her better say nothing.

Love u lots Carol!!! Posted on 18 Jun 2009 14:16
eish you are sooo judgemental on others!-
I think you are very judgemental Pearl! i guess im saying this because we are all just people in this world. i understand what you mean about the whole being proud thing..but whatever made you think that these women were not proud of who and what they are? ...have you ever heard them being negative about being black? im sick of people who sit back and judge others..it hurts peoples feelings when people do this. i know because all throughout school i got teased and ridiculed because of my accent..thing is i wasnt even aware of it! and it hurts! its only when we know people personally were discover thier true nature...and i dont think you know these women persaonally. if you want to change the world then change yourself and stop looking at others. Black, white does it really matter!-
Rather focus on you and who you are, Im glad you like mogudo and proud of who and where you came from. Carol is being Carol dont make her want to be someone she's not, as long as you're comfortable the way you are be happy.
Another thing her husband married Carol not because of the colour of her skin, he married Carol for the hard working (to some inspiring) woman that she is.
She contributes in making a differnce in our country and that to me is a beautiful thing, gosh when will people stop discriminating against others???!!!
I say if the accent doesnt kill anyone, why not Posted on 22 Sep 2009 11:45

LETS BE HONEST WITH OURSELVES!-
Let me start by saying that all black people have a self hatred issue eg. XENOPHOBIA ( well some more than others, or to some extent ). I am even disgusted that its even given a name making it an excuse of some sort, it makes me ashamed of being South African ! On the Carol Bouwer part I would say that for us even debating this clearly means that there is a problem with her , let us not run away from that part !Carol once said that she used to be critisized in school for always speaking english. My sister went to the same high school she went to which was then, the prestigious Inanda Seminary. she responded by saying thats a lie! and that all students were forced to speak in english- she was't special in any way. Carol does have an issue, let us not judge , let us not be hard on her. And remember we are carrying our own issues as well ! Posted on 23 Jul 2010 10:39

Hypocrites-
All you people have double standards. I am sure that most of the women who bash Carol have hair extensions or used relaxer to straighten their hair. I am sure they are wearing Eurocentric clothes and jewellery. Carol is an innovator. This is the same when people bashed Felicia Mabuza in her heydays for being too white. Posted on 28 Oct 2010 10:14

Criticism -
i've been following your arguement with Pearl and i've just noted that, since you have worked with Carol you probably think highly of her and as for Pearl working in the industry she probably has her own values of how she'll like to see things and make things. i'm not Motswako viewer and I haven't seen her for quite some time, so my point is, most of our brothers and sisters are falling into a trap of speaking English with an accent in order to fit in whether it be with your white colleques, white mates, corporate world, etc.

so i say big up to Pearl for standing her ground she's a very strong sister and as for you Bettie i'm sure you'll lash at anyone who will criticize you, i believe in criticism a lot cause (if you dont know) it actually makes you a better person hence they say "today's criticisms are tomorrow's compliment" that is why in parliament we have the opposition if you know what i mean

you actually want to sound intelligent but to my disappointment you sounding foolish(no pun intended)

finally, we all know that English is a universal language and we find ourselves (esp in SA) in a situation were we have to communicate in english, but ask yourself why the French people speak it with a french accent, Italians With italian accent, Irish people with an irish accent and the Americans, see how easy it is to identify the above mentioned, so what about us, who are we actually trying to be? the Americans, the English, the Irish. if someone is from Italy we can learn from their accent that he might be Italian and if someone like Carol goes to France and she speaks with that accent they(French) will ask themselves "where is she from" Peace Posted on 12 May 2005 10:05

Carol Rocks-
I think many of us especially black women and men still are intimidated by the transition of the modern day black woman. Alot about us has changed, and evolving is a natural process, people need to understand that wisdom is defined by the measures of change and adaptation and thriving within that change, I say Carol should continue to embrace her divinty. Her talents are God given, and it's by his grace that he has shaped her into this being. He could've directed her in any other position, but he chose to place her here, and she is living a blessed life. I say more power to her. She deserves all the support she can get, for defying all the rules and making her own decisions, and sticking to them regardless of the circumstance or what people say, i admire her. Guys, just leave Carol Lindiwe Mogale aka Bouwer alone ok. If she does not want to speak with her 'TAUNG' accent it's ok. I think we are allowed to choose who we want to be in life. Michael Jackson chose to be white so Carol's only challenge now is to 'JIK' her skin so it turns white. La hafffer lena. tongue tied-
Hi there!!!

I would like to know if you have to be able to speak another language other than English and Afrikaans. My problem is that I only speak English and Afrikaans fluently but only understand a bit of Zulu and Tswana (not even enough to catch a full conversation) but I cannot speak it. Please shed light on this matter as I am sure there are many women out there with a similar problem. Posted on 7 Jul 2005 22:19

Women-
I was touched by the show presented by Nakedi Ribane and her co host. I feel that there must be a solution to save the high rate of HIV infections especially to married women. The biggest question is how can we protect ourselves as women form being infected by our partners. I think that a follow up show must be presented to give women solution to these situation. Many can argue why not use condoms. it is not easy to ask your husband to use condoms. It insuniates other things that i do not want to discuss but the fact that more and more female are infected in marriages scares me. If a cream can be manufacturerd to prevent pregnancy i believe with thourough research something can be created to address this painfull experience of woman like Connie Setjeo to reduce more infections. Carol issue-
This whole Carol issue reminds me of high school. Why do peepz have a problem with others manipulating their grasp of a certain language. By the way, whoever started calling Carol a Bimbette here is some info, A bimbette is a mentally vacuous woman. If you don't know what vacuous is, it means empty. Just cause Carol can manipulate language phonetics, implies she is smart as hell. So all you accent "mourning" idiots, go study linguistics then, you'll understand the problem you think exists is not a problem at all.

Hey Carol, you are fab and I love you. If you need your own Website created, drop me a mail at this email address (thapelo.masemola@gmail.com) for free.@ Carol. Posted on 8 Aug 2007 14:39

Carol Bouwer . .What a Fake-
My problem with her is that she is trying too hard to sound like a Model C or the like, whateva, and she's NOT

I cringe everytime i hear her speak
I wonder how much energy she puts into moulding that awful squeak of hers.

She should learn from women of substance like Bassie Khumalo, Redi Direko
I have so much respect for them
They sound like themselves and not like some cooked up, wannabe white sounding spineless black people who name their children "Dante"

EEEUW Posted on 26 Feb 2008 18:51
why
Why oh why-
What a shame...does she envy the likes of Noleen and Khanyi who went to Model C Schools. She is embarrasing herself...shame on her Posted on 17 Mar 2008 19:05

More information, date and venue, do you want Sotho speaking ladies only?-
I am so dissapointed, reading comments from other SA ladies, why do we ALWAYS put other ladies down? and, yet we talk about supporting each other as women. We are not going anywhere ladies. If you did not use given opportunities like Carol, please leave her alone and concerntrate on how can you do better than Mrs Bouwer and, or I also believe that there is nothing wrong if one wishes to be like Carol.

Please ladies! Posted on 15 Jul 2008 15:00
BLACK ON BLACK-
iv been reading all the messages that have been written about Carol, good and bad. i myself went through a phase where people called me a coconut because i spoke with a "white accent"- whatever that means? so then i became extreme about "black consciousness" to make everyone believe that i was "black enough". what does it mean to be proudly South African? how do u measure whether someone is black enough? whats the criteria? If being black means speaking an african language, then should we declare Johnny Clegg as black? if Carol spoke tswana 24/7, grew dreadlocks, wore long skirts and beads, and walked around bearfoot, would that make her more black?

this is insane people.. Pearl my sister, the last thing i want is to get into a fight with u like Ms Davis BUT you say that your simply giving Carol some positive critisism, but you come across as cruel.

at the end of the day, there is nothing anyone can do to make themselves less black or white or indian.. you are wat u are, regaurdless of the language u speak... if Carol speaks with an accent it doesnt decrease her "blackness" and increase her "whiteness" thats not the way it works. we should all try opening our minds to the diversities of each individual instead of trying to force people to look, speak and act the way we want them to act..

peace, love and RESPECT. Posted on 19 Aug 2008 11:26

Woow!-
....i dont know what to say at all this comments...obviously it is very important seen as it started in 2005 and here i am today in 2009 and i feel compelled to say something.

i was just watching Motswako when i decided to google it....and i must say, everytime i watch and Carol is on...i am amazed at the contents of what she has to say...she is really intelligent....i cant remember her or Basetasna's accents...(I THINK THATS VERY SUPERFICIAL)...

All i know is that...they speak to me, i'd like to have a conversation to them both....and Redi Direko too among others....not so much Noeleen.

My point is...its the contents of what they say that matters to me...not how they say it...

That She doesnt eat Mogodu, she's got 600 paisr of shoes...those are things i hear and forget within a minute....what sticks in my heead is the staff with substance...or am i the only young person who is not affected by such things?....

To All the people who have a lot of complaints about her....i just want you to know you have shocked me. At 22, i look up to women like her for what they do......and for petty issues to be brought on like this is very puzzling to me...

They call it critisism? at my age...i can tell the diffrence between positive critisizm and being nasty...and i thing Pearl and co. are just soo rude ist shocking.
