Conference to highlight digital media for broadcasters

A two-day Digital Media for Broadcasters conference will be held at The Wanderers Club, Illovo, Johannesburg, 13 - 14 May, 2009. It will focus on the interactive future of radio and TV and on how further to develop digital property.

The conference is suitable for delegates from CEOs and MDs to creative directors and media planners; strategists, producers and presenters to marketing, online and publicity/promotion specialists.

Topics will include: “What is your future?”, “Gaining your competitive edge”, “Thinking out of the box”, “Tools to enable multimedia content”, “Streaming, podcasting & vidcasting” and “Generating revenue from digital property”.

Case studies

Delegates can learn from top international broadcasters, via a series of leading case studies, to fast-track strategic planning; to identify how to develop an additional revenue stream, attract and retain listeners and viewers and drive them to the web to increase revenue; and to achieve a sound technical understanding of the range of multimedia offerings out there.

There will be top-quality speakers from local industry heavyweights including the Mail & Guardian Online, Draftfcb, Primedia Broadcasting, 5FM, Vodacom, Classic FM, Praekelt Consulting (lead sponsor), Siemens (lead sponsor) Quirk eMarketing, Chetty Law, Antfarm, Don't Look Down Productions, Zoopy.com and YFM - and international presentations from Czech Radio and RTE (Ireland).

Afternoon workshop

There is also a separately bookable afternoon workshop for campus and community radio, which will focus on techniques for building digital media properties for community and campus stations, positioning a website as an effective community/campus tool and creating an online revenue stream for campus/community stations.

The conference will be chaired by Professor Christo Doherty, head: digital arts, University of the Witwatersrand, and is sponsored jointly by Siemens and Praekelt Consulting.
