Al Jazeera launching in SA 'within weeks'

22 Sep 2006 09:204 commentsBizLike
The Arabic news channel, Al Jazeera, will be broadcasting from South Africa "within weeks". It will have offices in 12 African countries, which include South Africa and Zimbabwe. This was announced in Johannesburg yesterday, Thursday 21 September, by Nigel Parsons, the managing director of Al Jazeera International.
Parsons said the channel will reverse the news flow. At present Africans are accustomed to seeing, but not liking, the world through northern eyes. Present news perspectives flow from the north to the south and reflect what is news and what is important seen through those eyes.

Al Jazeera will report from the inside out, not looking at Africa from the outside, but from the inside. It will have African journalists reporting on African events on an English-language channel throughout the continent.

Parsons said that it will not just report the tragedies of Africa but also its hopes and successes.

He was speaking at the International Media Forum in Sandton yesterday, which brought together senior editors from the world's most important media with business, government and communication professionals. The Forum was partnered by the International Marketing Council of South Africa (IMC).

How quick? Move on-
I'm impressed by the action of Al Jazeera to move in to South Africa.
I have not seen or heared any of it's broadcast but am looking forward to the broadcast. I will not treat you differently from how I see SABC. If I don't agree with your reporting, I will tell you.

Nearer and nearer-
And so the tentacles of Muslim fundamentalism grow nearer and nearer, penetrating every nook and cranny, strangling all that is neutral and peaceful until, finally, what is left of the the independent thinker, the moderate religion and the sectarian-free government and state, South Africa not excluded, will succumb.

One must be very stupid, or a blind Islamist, not to question every single motive of every single act of these people who call themselves "religious" or "peace-loving", yet NEVER take a single second to condemn even the smalest acts of violence perpetrated by fellow followers of Islam. When people die, often most barbarically and cruelly, through acts of Islamic fundamentalism's terrorist violence and atrocities, the silence from Al Jazeera and Muslims in general is deafening.

As a result, everything that Al Jazeera stands for in both news dissemination and religious propagandism needs to treated with a pinch of salt. It's Al Jazeera's raison d'etre that renders its credibility -- and that of the religion it serves -- worthy of a big fat ZERO. Posted on 26 Sep 2006 16:18
