South Africa's Paralympics team has positively contributed in putting the country in the global public eye with their sterling performance and 21 gold medals won at the 13th Paralympics games held in Beijing in the past weeks, according to the International Marketing Council (IMC).
The team has become the most successful South African Paralympics team ever, surpassing the 15 gold medals the South Africans won in Athens in 2004.
“Their achievement epitomises the very essence of the South African brand slogan - ‘Alive with Possibility.' We want to congratulate the whole team for their magnificent effort. The medal total is just out of this world and disproportionately high when compared to the size of the team. The team has lifted our spirits and given the whole country a sense of soaring pride,” said Margaret Dingalo, stakeholder relations director, International Marketing Council of South Africa (IMC), custodian of brand South Africa.
Dingalo said it was performances of this nature that made an invaluable contribution in marketing South Africa as a country of excellence.
“It also sends out a positive message to the world that South Africa is indeed a sport loving country that is ready to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup.”
I wonder if members of the Currently Unaffected Public really understand what a big thing this is? Judging by the low-key welcome they received when they jetted back home, I doubt it.
These people had to summit 2 mountains to get where they are today. Firstly, their physical problems and Seccondly, their athletic accomplishment! Posted on 26 Sep 2008 18:11
