Making merry, SA style

Happy Tuesday and welcome back from the long weekend. Hope a good Heritage Day was had by all! In line with celebrating our heritage we bring you a proudly patriotic lifestyle newsletter this week.

On the eating, drinking and making merry side of things, Justin Williams has a tankyard thumping time at the recent Bierfest in Cape Town, and both the winners of the Diners Club Winelist Awards, and the nominees of the Eat Out DStv Restaurant Awards are announced.

In travel news, Brian Berkman finds out what managing director of Cruises International, George Argyropolous loves about the cruise life, and enjoys the views at the Drakensberg Sun situated in World Heritage Wilderness site, The Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park.

Keeping things proudly SA, Daniel Derksen reviews the Afrikaans film Die Wonderwerker which showcases top South African creative talent, and Sindy Peters reports back on Greenpop's second birthday bash which celebrated its recent Trees for Zambia project with a docci and some feel good performances by SA artists at the Assembly.

In theatre news, Eugene Yiga reviews the voyeuristic play Other People's Lives, and recommends Cape Town Opera's adaptation of Porgy and Bess.

We have some super ticket and hamper giveaways this week; two tickets for Rocking the Daisies and In the City, both featuring Bloc Party, as well as an Example hamper, are all up for grabs.

Happy winning!

[Henrie Geyser: motoring editor] The Nissan 370Z is often referred to as the Nissan GT-R's baby brother, not because it is a little mommy's boy car but because it has a dark side just like its bigger brother, the tar-shredding Nissan GTR super sports car. Read more >>

Die Wonderwerker
[Daniel Dercksen] Die Wonderwerker is a masterful Afrikaans film that speaks in any language. It is a sumptuous showcase of South African filmmaking and storytelling at its Oscar-worthy best; a culmination of the top (and astounding) talents that the country has to offer: the vision and passion of director and storymaker Katinka Heyns; the insight and astuteness of storyteller Chris Barnard; the exceptional craftsmanship of cinematographer Koos Roets; the stirring music of composer Ben Ludik; the precision of editor Ronelle Loots; and the cream of South African performers. Resident Evil: Retribution
[Daniel Dercksen] Virtual reality becomes explosive virtual fiction in Resident Evil: Retribution, a visceral ballet of action, sound, image and visual effects. Greenpop turns two, Makhulu seeks crowdfunding

A new take on Porgy and Bess
