Show profile Hide profileTshepo Makhubela, professionally known as DJ13SA, is a respected force in South Africa’s music and broadcasting industries. With over 15 years of experience, he has built a legacy rooted in creativity, culture, and excellence. Having started his career in community and campus radio, Tshepo steadily carved his path in broadcasting and music, gaining recognition for his consistency, attention to sonic identity, and creative leadership across various roles.
With a deep understanding of South Africa’s music and broadcast culture, Tshepo has shaped the sonic direction of national radio and TV programs, worked with top-tier musicians, and built high-performing campaigns for legacy and contemporary acts alike. His work is grounded in authenticity and purpose, always seeking to uplift through sound, strategy, and storytelling.
Broadcasting and Production Legacy Tshepo began his broadcasting career in 2011 at VOW FM, where he was instrumental in restoring the station’s credibility and creative edge following a license recovery. During this time, he also served as a tutor and mentor through the Wits Radio Academy, earning an MTN Radio Award in 2013 for innovation in radio education, specifically training blind students. From 2013 to 2017, he joined Jacaranda FM as a Junior Imaging Producer and later became a full-time content producer for the Breakfast and Drive shows. His contributions helped the station win "Station of the Year" in 2015 and "Best Drive Show" in 2016.
Television and Gospel Influence In 2018, Tshepo expanded into television, joining SABC1’s Gospel Unplugged as the music curator and eventually co-host. His curated live performance segments and sharp musical direction played a pivotal role in the show’s success, culminating in a Crown Gospel Award.
Between 2018 and 2020, Tshepo worked with Raplyf Records, where he was responsible for overseeing label events, brand activations, and road management.
Music Nation, founded on 27 November 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, already stands as Tshepo’s core platform for label management, creative direction, campaign design, and artist strategy. In 2023, Music Nation made its debut with the release of Mjakes Thebe’s studio album. Tshepo led both label management and A&R, bringing together legends like Zahara, Kelly Khumalo, Masandi Mfusi, and Mo-T (MiCasa). The album was a cultural and critical success.
In 2024, Tshepo spearheaded the PR and single release campaign for Stimela, reintroducing the legendary group to a new generation with their powerful comeback single, "Juju." The rollout dominated headlines and street buzz with the bold declaration: "STIMELA IS BACK." The campaign also revitalized Stimela’s presence on social media, reintroducing their legacy to a younger digital audience. In 2025, Music Nation managed the full campaign for Mmatema’s gospel album, Heart of Gratitude. From A&R to final rollout, the album reached nationwide acclaim, affirming Mmatema’s influence and Music Nation’s creative strength. Notably, Heart of Gratitude achieved 1.8 million streams in its first month, marking one of the most successful gospel album launches of the year.
