Is Gagasi 99.5 as big as it used to be?
Whe Gagasi99.5 came to the scene sometime last year it was big but now I feel like it has lost it touch. Is it me or what? I feel like Ukhozi FM has won it listeners once more & Gagasi is left out in the cold. Jozi people do u know Gagasi99.5?

We keep on comparing Gagasi to Yfm and the reality is Jozi people and Durbanite are some what different. I love the fact that Gagasi still keeps urban youth cultured.

I fully agree with Sipho, I think they missed the boat when they tried to use the tried and tested DJ's like Just-ice.If I were the station manager I would have gone for relatively unknown but talented presenters, there a lot of Community radio stations in KZN where they could have got the right talent. Sure when G99.5 came out it was xciting but manje i thnk sesiyabona sonke that there's no growth in terms of the material given to us-The Listeners. Their jokes can sometimes be pathetic and offensive and to bring back uSEXA as uNoluthando?Do they honestly thnk we're dat stupid?
She n Ice were wrong,yes they were delt with but i dnt thnk she shd hve been allowed bck!

I could not agree more with Sipho.

By sheer coincidence I am reading this posting on the morning our Creative Director is meeting the marketing people at Durban Youth Radio.

As a corporate citizen of Durban we have decided to get involved in how brands are communicated to markets and will be pitching the rebranding and repositioning of brand DYR.
Over the next few months Durbanites should see a serious injection of vigour and life into the radio station's branding, events, BTL guerilla activities and image projection.

If Ukhozi was not a PBS station,they would be holding all the aces.Gagasi misses the chance to fill in the gaping gap-"entertainment"-,mixed with business.Their music is so "repeatitious"(if such a word exists)they now sound like ECR.Boring.But still a relief from the never ending community talk shows of Ukhozi.Hhayi kabi...!

99.5 Rocks all over KZN, You get in the taxi, visit your friends and naibours i-Gagasi is listened to. So please look at the population first, how many people listen to Ukhozi and how many listen to Gagasi.
Judge by the number of population and you'll see which Radio Station Rocks!

There really is no comparison between the two stations.Gagasi is youthful and inspiring .Thjey know the latest and the greatest,they're basically wat's hip and happening.Whereas ukhozi on the other hand, has run it's course.It was a hit once upon a time but now it's just another used to be. Gagasi 99.5-
I mis the days of P4 with KG and Sexa in the morning, back then radio was both entertaining and informative not rubbish we listen to today, The station went from one of the best in terms of contant and their numbers were not so bad either.

As programmes manager KG transformed the station to one of the most respected in the country and in the corporate sector. She managed to build a good team with the resources she had.

Then they brought in a girl who has not radio or media background to manage the station, in a space of a year she managed to erase all that was good about the station almost all of its management resigned or were fired.
She managed to turn the classiest station in the province to trash, got read of the best DJ's KG, Sexa,Mandla Ngcobo, Kim, Ismael Abrahams, Ricky Stevens, Matumo / programme managers KG/ News editor and current affairs host Ncumisa Fandesi and replaced them with a bunch of unknown ametures.

The gagasi are the crap, they suck,they even don't pay salary 4 their workers.Lastly they cann't afford to b equalled with ukhozi even they like. Please be more pantuality than you are-
I think if all DJ of GAgasi can be able to talk properly and mind their language while speaking on air, can make a huge difference compared to what it as now. Sometimes they forget that there are kids out there who are listening to them, and of which they(kids) regard them as their role models, so how can they set a good examples if they (DJ) themselves cannot mind their own language. I luv this station but please pull up your socks guys, remember that you are competing with a highly recognized station. I suggest that in order for you to be more successfull you have to copy their good attitude, the manners they are using when speaking to the media. Ukhozi & Igagasi are two different radio stations and it's really stupid to campare the two. Igagasi is just for entertainment while Ukhozi entertain while it's being informative. There is a difference between commercial & public broadcaster.

We shouldn't be comparing Igagasi with Ukhozi coz izinto ezu two ezahlukene. Why not compare Gagasi with Metro or YFM & compare Ukhozi with Umhlobo or Lesede? Well I also agree Lucky's show rocks!!! You can't compare Gagasi to Ukhosi, both have completely different formats and totally different markets. Sure Ukhosi is bigger, they the 2nd biggest radio station in the world, but they have a different mandate as a PSB. They also enjoy a much larger foot print than Gagasi, I mean you can even listen to Ukhosi in Jozi and in any rural area in KZN. Gagasi broadcasts exclusively to the urban market in Dbn, PMB and on the coast but still has 1 985 000 listners! Their urban listenership for ages 16-34 in Dbn and PMB is higher than Ukhosi, doesn't that show you something about the different markets???! Posted on 12 Jan 2010 14:32

I listen to both Ukhozi and GAgasi on different times; coz without some DJays both these stations can be a bore. They both have heroes and crap DJays. But if you do want to grow up to be someone one day. Ukhozi is the place to start. IGagasi is good but inhlonipho lacks. They are over expressive; over funny and insensitive. Anyone ophuphile; ongenavision will love listening to their crap. Ukhozi is boring coz lusho amaqiniso and abantu abongosiyazi do not listen to it but ukuhlanipha kuyaphela; but ubulima abupheli. You can ask Vukile, Phumlani, late Mandla, Perl Maseko and many more Khozi fm dj's. Ukhozi Fm is an international radio station, while Gagasi is the Best Provincional Radio Station. I have read all the letters of Ukhozi& Gagasi fans arguing who's the best, i must admit Ukhozi is better than Gagasi(but not the best as everyone claim). We must also remind ourselves that these radio station aren't the same. Ukhozi is a Public Broadcaster the main aim of SABC is to inform people through this radio station without making any profit like Umhlobo wenene,5FM ETC. Gagasi is a music station, their aim is to entertain and make profit at the same time like Metro fm,YFM ETC. When i say Ukhozi is better i mean it better because it sticks to it aim (informing), but Gagasi is failing with them reapiting same song is not entertaining.
