Cashing in - 14 May 2012

By Shan Radcliffe

The forecasts are in and economists are expecting a rise in the March retail trade results, which are due out Wednesday. The Spark Cash Index last week revealed the effect the holidays had on ATM withdrawals. BMR has also found that consumer's cash flows have improved in the first quarter of 2012.

Last week we looked at the impact that visual displays have on stock movement; and GS1 South Africa released a warning to the retail industry about an unauthorised seller offering unusable 11-digit barcodes.

And even though SARB is no longer producing 5c pieces, we look at how counting coins is still necessary to retailers.

The controversial 22seven is now out of it's beta testing phase, and although 22seven founder Christo Davel has told press that the company is trying to find ways of linking with banks, one has to wonder whether that horse will ever catch up with its cart.

Have a great week!
