The President has appointed Chabane to work with all stakeholders to ensure that the culture of learning is restored at the university.

"We need to work collectively with all stakeholders to urgently ensure that all [students] return to class and that the culture of learning is restored at the university," said Chabane.

Chabane is currently consulting with the relevant stakeholders in government and will in due course hold discussions with all affected parties.

The minister has already established a technical committee of Directors-General led by the Presidency working with Labour and Higher Education to begin the process immediately.

The President assigned Chabane after receiving a letter appealing for his intervention from Reverend VP Mabo of the South Africa Council of Churches in the Eastern Cape.

The minister said that all stakeholders need to work together to find an amicable solution to the challenges.
