Golfing insert rebrands, becomes stand-alone mag

GreensideGolf Publishing has relaunched Golf Escapes as the monthly GreensideGolf World. The magazine, which used to be a substantial insertion into Tee to Green, is now a stand-alone title under new editor Lali Stander.

“Quite simply, the publication outgrew its parent,” explains publisher Michael Beatham, who also publishes consumer titles GolfPunk, Golf and Wein. “With a print run of 50 000, we are far and away the largest circulating golf magazine in the country. And moving forward, we're super-sizing GreensideGolf World to make it the biggest golfing mag, dimensionally, on the green!”

Meeting the size challenge with accompanying editorial weight is the task of Stander, who promises “meatier worldly front line news, rankings, calendar and a look at the amateur scene”.

Stander, a born-and-bred Capetonian, started her career in the mining industry where she remained for four years in Gauteng. Relocating to Cape Town in the late 1990s, she joined The Sunshine Tour, for whom she established an inhouse media department. She travelled exclusively with the tour for over 10 years, developing a strong media following in the process.

Commenting on her appointment, Stander says “I am extremely excited to be part of the new look and feel of GreensideGolf World and hope that our readership enjoy the new format. This will include lots more golf news, events, real estate in the front and a heavy emphasis on appealing golf travel opportunities! The size of the publication has increased to Property Magazine format.”

Having Stander edit GreensideGolf World is also a strategic move to position the title in a way that is appealing to female golfers as well, observes Beatham. “All research confirms a double digit increase in women taking up the game and the magazine intends to tap into that development.

Now published monthly, GreensideGolf World is distributed on a complimentary basis to the top 175 golf courses in South Africa reaching 90% of all players.
