Stathacopoulos invited to be Caples Country Chair again

Proximity#ttp's managing partner Nici Stathacopoulos has been invited to be The John Caples International Awards Chairperson for another five-year term. She has been South Africa's chair for the awards since 2003.

In a letter, The Caples executive VP Sid Liebenson said because of all the bold plans in place to advance the awards, it needed to maintain a team of people who had shown commitment such as Stathacopoulos. “Our success as a top international creative competition for direct and interactive marketers would not be possible without your support. I hope we can count on your continued participation for Caples XXXI.”

“Our continued participation in the awards and the invitation to be chair is a good reflection of the high calibre of talented professionals we have and the respect the international industry has for this country,” Stathacopoulos said.

She added that the SA judge for The Caples would be announced soon.

    New awards partner

Meanwhile, the board of The John Caples International Awards has unanimously agreed to partner with Haymarket Media, parent company of DMNews, to manage, present and advance the global annual Caples awards, celebrating direct response and interactive creative across all media.

Named after John Caples, a pioneer direct response copywriter, the yearly Caples awards programme is now into its fourth decade and has been run through an all-volunteer organisation, comprising some of the leading professionals in direct marketing.

The Caples awards programme was founded and chaired by the renowned Andi Emerson, who directed the programme for 30 years until her death in February 2008. Emerson and the board initiated negotiations with Haymarket Media in 2007. Under the terms of the three-year agreement, Caples will be issuing a call for entries for the 2009 Awards in June, and the judging will continue to take place in New York City, New York.
