Nando's is known for its ability to find a twist or a unique perspective on current affairs and contemporary issues. Its festive season campaign, created by Blackriver FC and directed by Dean Blumberg of Bouffant, pays tribute to 2011's biggest news stories: the fall of dictators. It has already received almost 91 000 views on YouTube (it has been uploaded more than once) as at 2.30pm on Friday 25 November.

The central idea of the "Last Dictator Standing" campaign revolves around one particular African dictator, 'Bob', at a dinner party he throws for some likeminded friends and his memory of the 'good times'. However, that's just the TV. There is a fully integrated campaign for the festive season that includes in-store activity, Twitter-based competitions and radio that will bring a 'famous' voice to the airwaves.

Comedian Eugene Khoza made an unannounced appearance on the '180 with Bob' show on Kaya FM to hint at the idea of a big scoop from Nando's. He then said he'd sent Nando's new TVC to the station's webmaster and that it was now available for viewing only on www.kayafm.co.za/nandos-the-last-dictator-standing/.

"We are excited that an international brand like Nando's selected Kaya FM as a key platform to preview their national festive season campaign," comments Kaya FM MD Greg Maloka. "Kaya FM has built a strong radio brand that speaks to Gauteng's most influential consumers in the middle to upper class markets. There is a natural fit with Kaya FM and an established South African brand like Nando's."

Some of the initial comment on the TVC has been that it is reminiscent of Vodacom's "We've been having it" campaign.
