According to an article by Amanda Visser, fewer than half of government departments are able to provide "credible and quality information" in their financial reports. Quoting auditor-general Terence Nombembe, it seems
state finances are regressing.
It's bad enough when we hear of our tax monies being wasted through the need (call that greed) of individuals within government deciding to spend millions on parties, luxury cars, first-class travel and so on, but it's almost worse when even the auditor-general has an issue with the departments and municipalities' accounting standards, and we then don't know where money is going or how it is being spent or wasted.

After being introduced to the Skills Village grassroots entrepreneurial concept by the Foundation for Internet Development (FID), BitCo, an emerging telecoms operator, has provided its young entrepreneurs with the ICT tools necessary to kick-start their dreams. Skills Village is in Frere Street, downtown Joburg. 
The Put Foot Foundation has raised over R600,000 in its first year of operation, a remarkable first step on its journey to putting school shoes on the feet of young, underprivileged children in South Africa. Funds raised in 2012 will help the foundation to donate 4116 school shoes to 10 schools across Southern Africa. 
For the eighth consecutive year, Engen, in association with the Rotary Club of Empangeni, is supporting the Connection Ride, a group cycle ride that makes charitable donations to worthy recipients at 16 Engen sites along its route across South Africa.
