| With marketers coming to terms with the ‘market-of-one' where consumer segmentation is about the individual, retailers and manufacturers in this billion dollar industry have to engage with the consumer as never before. This is why ad agencies like Ogilvy have launched special in store shopper targeted divisions, why trend analysts are focusing on the behavior of the individual, and why globally, the environment is taking precedence over every sphere of influence: from product source to manufacture to labour practices, to company social investment. But what does any of this matter in Africa when we still have hundreds of thousands of people going to bed hungry? How do retailers and manufacturers marry the dichotomy of working across first world and third world economies on a continent where wealth, opportunity, hopelessness and poverty live side by side? Bizcommunity.com, Africa's leading community for the media, marketing and advertising industry with 77 000 weekly subscribers and 192 000 readers per month of our daily news, is launching targeted trade news for the consumer packaged goods industry today, Monday, 16 July. Launching at the Africa Big 7 retail trade show, we hope to address these issues and provide news and information on a daily basis to this fast moving industry, thereby contributing towards knowledge transfer, development and upskilling in the industry through timeous information and the creation of community networks.
