International rush

A rush of international acts with South Africa on their tour list have recently been announced; ballady pop star Daniel Bedingfield is to grace SA stages in November and December, SA's adopted American Rodriguez shall be performing in Cape Town and Joburg next year February, and hot off the press is the announcement of 80s pop-rock hair band Bon Jovi to tour in May 2013. Bedingfield will also welcome in the start of the ever popular 2012/2013 Old Mutual Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts.

In cinema news, things take a creepy turn just in time for Halloween. Daniel Derksen reviews two spine-tingling films, Paranormal Activity 4, and The Possession.

Eugene Yiga enjoys the engaging and award-winning theatre production Red, and reviews the musically inspired comedy Another Friggin' Tribute Show.

Motoring editor Henri Geyser reviews the new sassy and streamlined VW Beetle, and introduces the new Geely EC7, while our travel contributor Brian Berkman enjoys a stay at the gracious family-run hotel Kurland.

New competitions this week include the chance to win two tickets to the Red Bull Music Academy Culture Clash at the Nasrec Centre in Joburg this Saturday.

Happy Halloween for tomorrow, beware the beasties!

Fear at its most extreme
[Daniel Dercksen] When a film is called The Possession and it begins with an ominous soundtrack and a warning that "the following is based on true events", suspending disbelief is optional. If the titles reveal that it is produced by horror maestro Sam Raimi, who changed the face of horror with The Evil Dead, and made by Ghost House Pictures, you are pretty much unnerved before paranormal events arise.
