Carla de Klerk
To create words, pictures and meanings, whether it be about travel, music and arts or the political front has slowly become part of my own self. At my current position of Editor-in-Chief I have gained experience in truly understanding this field. Now I am more than ever ready to take on the exciting challenges of working as an editor in a large and prestigious publishing house in a team surrounding.
Show profile Hide profileFrom school days I have always been part of the school newspaper, where I acted as features editor. Moving to Cape Town to take on my degree in Film and Media studies, it was only natural for me to continue this interest with the University of Cape Town's newspaper Varsity where I started as a staff writer but quickly moved on to be appointed as the deputy online editor, and online multimedia editor. In this position I not only sourced and created content for the paper's website but also created film- documentaries, the first-ever of its kind for the newspaper. At university, I became the University of Cape Town's representative writer for the student online magazine Varsity Breakout and also started to freelance for the online magazine Ke-Nna. Last year, I was fortunate enough to be taken up as an intern for the community magazine, Get It Cape Town, which provided me with valuable experience in writing, magazine design and photography. Apart from writing and sourcing articles on a monthly base, I even had the privilege to photograph three different covers for the magazine. I have also acted as web designer, editor, social media manager, online marketer and online content creator for the publishing agency, The Lennon-Ritchie Literary Agency.
Taking on the corporate world, I have worked as magazine editor and media manager for the agency MEDO for the past 9 months. My main duty is fully creating a quarterly magazine from design to content to liasing with the printers and distribution, and it goes without saying this has been extremely valuable knowledge to have gained. In this position I have also done everything from redesigning the website, managing social media to planning various VIP events. Although I enjoy this position immensely, I would like to broaden my experience by working in a different industry.
Separate from the professional realm, for the past two years I have also been running and managing my personal blog Amateur Anthropology (amateuranthropy.com) as well as an exciting food blog (foodfellowshipandwine.com) both of which are ever growing in their global followship.
I believe I am your perfect candidate as I have the energy of a Jack Russel with the tenacity of a Bull Dog. If you were to grant me an opportunity to prove myself, I can guarantee you will find in me much more than an employee, you will find someone for a burning passion for media, the online domain and most importantly, a desire to learn more from it.
