The 2017 Wine & Food Tourism Study in the Western Cape, conducted annually by Wesgro in partnership with Explore Sideways, showed that wine tourism in the Western Cape has grown by 16% between 2016 and 2017. Growth is further evidenced by tour operators indicating that 99% of Cape Town-based itineraries include a trip to the Winelands.

The results of the inaugural Wines of South Africa Sommelier (WOSA) World Cup, which originated in Cape Town to encourage international knowledge on South African wines, were announced on Saturday 16 October 2010.
