How big is the need for a reliable source of Event Service providers?

5 Jul 2004 14:5815 commentsBizLike
Venues, Caterers, Entertainment, Conferencing. Where do you find service providers for your events?
When tasked with the project of organising an event for your company, or yourself (weddings etc), have you got a trusted source you visit to find who an what you need? Or do you just use the yellow pages?

How big is the need for a dedicated directory of event service providers and what would your requirements be of such a directory?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

There are others out there too-
Hi Merryn
There are other service providers out there too who deliver as good as Gearhouse.
If you want one of the biggest one stop shops, Gearhouse is good, but can on occasion be rather "big brother".
If you want some alternatives, there are many available to assist.
Try an independant consultant, or contact TPSA who are supposed to be the regulatory body for Technical, or SAACI who are supposed to be regulatory body for the Conference & Events Industry as a whole. Posted on 31 May 2007 18:12

Look no further!-
The internet most definitely proves to be more useful than the Yellow Pages. www.eventguru.co.za is an interactive and useful resource guide with checklists, service providers, etc. Contact Leon at www.lpunlimited.co.za for the best service and most cost-effective AV requirements. Go to www.confsa.co.za for a fantastic course on Event planning. Writestuff Publishing also publish a conference handbook called Direct Access which contains all information pertinent to venues around the country, event organisers, speakers and anything else you look for when planning a meeting/conference - www.writestuff.co.za. Get the book at no charge! Happy Planning! Posted on 6 Jul 2004 09:58

References-
We've been using a company called Function House located in the Western Cape - a great company but it took us quite a while to find them email: tanyat@iafrica.com - I would recommend that you consider whether they are registered companies, and do they have references? If you have a good reference for hard work done (promotional clothing) and successful event after successful event/ job completed.. you have a successful partner you can work with. UPSTAGING THE REST-
For any AV, staging, lighting and sound for conferences, launches, production etc, make use of only ONE company...UPSTAGE. Their motto is "we upstage the rest" and they certainly do. Their professionalism and technical know how are outstanding. See www.upstage.co.za Posted on 21 Jul 2004 10:21

Comprehensive Website-
Hi there, a few colleagues and I was thinking of developing a website which will have pics of everything you can hire for an event.

This means that this website will contain pics of every venue, cup, plate, table, chair, knife, fork, etc, etc.

Do you think this will be a good idea? Would this help all those people that need to organise their events? Posted on 23 Jul 2004 12:24

Audio-Visual Systems-
Hi

I think bizcommunity is a rather reliable source such info. I have found a whole lot of useful contacts in this website. For your next gig please consider Vibin Staging. We have a full range of audio visual systems, stages and lighting. We spot a high quality range featuring NEXO, DAS and Shure.

Best regards

Most of the WriteStuff titles were sold to 3S Media (Shortens) mid 2005. I understand that 3S has been planning to revamp saconference for a while.
