SMS competitions
Recently on tv I saw a gameshow that lasted about an hour. Viewers get asked a question and you sms in (I think at R7.50 a shot) to enter. They called back 6 people in the space of an hour to see if they had the right answer.

What I want to know is this. In terms of the lottery and some other tv compeitions, usually there is an independant auditor monitoring the competition. On this sms game show there is no one. I can't imagine how much money they must be making as in the course of the show, they only gave away R3000. Who is assessing whether this show is actually legally done.....how do we know that the calls they are responding to are atually real live people at home and not friends of the station? How are these competitions being monitored? When asking friends if they had ever entered stuff like this, they said yes, but it had cost ended up costing them close to R90 for the whole entry.
