There were five students from the University of Johannesburg placed within a special project, and another four from the Vega Imagination Lab, each undertaking internships in various departments, as well as two strategy interns, one from Vega and the other from AAA.

"Given that advertising is not a top-of-mind career choice for many South African school-leavers, agencies have a responsibility to ensure that those who choose our industry are nurtured, mentored and given a chance to prove their worth and achieve their aspirations," says Lou Boxall-Davies, JWT Johannesburg's head of planning.

As part of their final year curriculum, two students, Sibusiso Gambu (AAA) and Tasneem Evans (Vega), spent a month working with the JWT Strategy Team, as interns, adding value with relevant insights, youthful ways of thinking and loads of enthusiasm.

"It is pleasing to see the high level of talent that is coming out of our advertising schools. JWT Johannesburg anticipates even more opportunities to invest in young talent in 2009, " concludes Boxall-Davies.
