Doubling up on comedy

Nu Metro Theatres is launching the Premiere Comedy Club, a double bill featuring a live comedy act and preview of a fun holiday blockbuster, towards the end of March 2007. “Our aim is to elevate the cinema experience in a ‘unique night out’ rather than an average trip to the movies,” says Shelley Saksenberg of Nu Metro Theatres.

“The Premiere Comedy Club allows for more social interaction as humour is always a great catalyst for having fun. As a brand, we are always looking to for innovative concepts that allow us to showcase new ideas in cinema entertainment,” adds Saksenberg.

On 27 March 2007, the first Premiere Comedy Club event will feature stand-up comedy from one of South Africa’s hottest comedians, Alan Committie, followed by a premiere of Mr Bean’s Holiday, the new Rowan Atkinson film, at the Nu Metro Il Grande cinema at Montecasino, Fourways, Johannesburg. Committie, better known as Laugh Out Loud’s Johan van der Walt, and has been described by The Star Tonight as ‘the funny bone of the nation’.

“This is the ideal venue for this type of event,” says Saskenberg. “The theatre is equipped with 500 luxury seats and the largest state-of-the-art digital screen in southern Africa.”

The evening includes a complimentary drink at the Il Grande Lounge prior to the performance as well as coke and popcorn during the event. Tickets are available at R125.00 from Computicket or Nu Metro, Montecasino.
