A production company registered in Asia recently rented mobile phones from a local supplier. The required deposit was paid in cash and the handsets returned to the supplier. Payment for airtime used was debited against a credit card provided by the client. On the return of the client to Asia the client had the credit card charges reversed claiming that they were ‘fraudulent'.
The GFC advises local service providers to be aware of such scams and where possible to always do detailed reference checks on clients or to insist on upfront payment or ‘cash on delivery' when dealing with new clients.
