A classic revival

94.5 Kfm brunch show host Benito Vergotine has taken over hosting the 10am – 2pm slot on Sundays with a show dedicated to old school classics.

“Benito is perfect for this timeslot. His style is warm and relaxed and the Sunday show is a natural extension of the weekday feature, The Time Tunnel, which takes you back in time to the heyday of guys like Lionel Richie, the Bee Gees and Level 42 and is very popular with our listeners,” says 94.5 Kfm programming manager Ian Bredenkamp.

Enjoy primetime presenters

According to Bredenkamp, listeners enjoy hearing primetime weekday presenters on air over the weekends.

“On weekends our listeners chill out with family and friends so they enjoy a laid-back mood on air with some familiar voices. For example, weekday afternoon drive host Richard Hardiman took up the World Chart Show on Saturdays about six months ago and the positive feedback we've had from listeners has been overwhelming.”

Vergotine presented the Sunday slot for the first time last weekend and says the focus is on “old skool” hits as requested by listeners.

“After a tough week at work it is quite nice to relax and relive some of the timeless old skool tracks that you remember growing up with and on Sundays I will certainly play that. Listeners can send in requests on the SMS line 32945 or they can e-mail me on Benito@kfm.co.za,” he explains.

Resonate with all ages

Vergotine adds that the classics resonate with all age groups.

“This past weekend I received requests via SMS from youngsters as well as the older crowd. Rageem requested his mother's favourite Whitney Houston track, as she celebrated her birthday. Soraya requested ‘Promises' by Basia. She then phoned to tell me that she's dancing to the hits in her living room even though she intended to go grocery shopping!” he said.
