Coca-Cola Dome voted best concert venue in Jo'burg

The Coca-Cola dome has been voted best concert venue in Johannesburg for the seventh consecutive year in the Best of Joburg Readers Choice Awards. The awards, with some 150 categories, are made based on ballots from almost a quarter of a million readers of Caxton newspapers across Johannesburg. The results are published in a special 'Best of Joburg' magazine.

Grant Medcalf, sales and marketing manager of the Coca-Cola dome says the venue, which is managed by Thebe Exhibitions & Events (previously known as South Africa RAI) and has a maximum capacity of 18 000 people, has hosted most of the international artists and bands that visited South Africa in recent years. "It is definitely a unique venue and we believe our good relationship with key concert promoters has stood us in good stead."

He says the Coca-Cola dome's easy accessibility, excellent acoustics and ample parking facilities all contribute to its popularity and create a comfortable and exciting atmosphere at concerts.

Major performances at the Coca-Cola dome this year have included those by REM, Westlife and Avril Lavigne. Upcoming concerts will, among others, see performances by Diana Ross, Christina Aguilera and the Violent Femmes.

Thebe Exhibition & Events managing director, Carol Weaving, says the award shows that the Coca-Cola dome, both in terms of its facilities and management, appeals to the consumer. "The people of Johannesburg have made the Coca-Cola dome their own - it is not just a landmark on the koppies to the north-west of the city, but definitely a popular place to visit."

Thebe Events has managed the dome since February 2004. For more information phone +27 11 794 5800 or visit www.coca-coladome.co.za.
