The 2008 competition attracted 1500 entries from kids of all ages across South Africa. Says editor, Fiona Thomson, “Last year's record-breaking entries is evidence of our readers love for capturing beautiful moments in time and I can't wait to see what they have in store for us this year.”
The competition, open to age groups 7 and under; 8-10 and 11-14 years, allows one titled picture into each of the following categories: People; My Environment; and Animals. This year readers will also be able to enter their photos via MMS on their cellphones.
The judges will select nine finalists and the overall winner will be announced in the March 2010 issue of NG Kids magazine.
Prize sponsors include digital cameras from Nikon; Spur meal vouchers, NG Kids subscriptions and limited-edition caps. The winning entry receives the grand prize of a Nikon D5000 camera, a trip for two to Slovenia and a chance to be entered into the 2009 National Geographic International Photography Contest. The finalists' artwork will be displayed at selected Spur Steak Ranches nationwide.
