Maxi's Facebook charity support cheers up sick children

Maxi's has a Facebook campaign that encourages its fans to interact with it. The person who engages the most is named the 'fan of the month' and he or she can then nominate a charity for the chain's support.

PJ Prema Reddy, chosen as the Maxi's Facebook fan for the month of December 2013, selected the Reach for a Dream Foundation and with Maxi's help they arranged a surprise visit to the King George Hospital in Durban.

On Friday night, 31 January, Kamlesh Bhika, the manager of Maxi's Overport, visited the TB ward at the hospital around dinnertime to treat the 50 children who are suffering from TB to burger meals, cold drinks and toys.

"While my heart goes out to the children suffering from this illness, I'm delighted that we were able to put a smile on their faces. At Maxi's, we believe in giving back. Paying it forward to the King George Hospital was our way of thanking PJ and other consumers just like him, for their loyal support," says Bhika.

Brand manager, Bronwyn Oliveira adds that the chain of national family restaurants is once again thrilled to be able to help those in need.

"I would like to thank all our Facebook fans for their dedication to our campaign and for giving us the opportunity to help them with their charitable giving. Owing to the success of the 2013 campaign, we are happy to report that we will continue with the fan of the month competition this year. We look forward to continued engagement with our Facebook fans and to giving our consumers the opportunity to make someone's day and to uplift their spirits," concludes Oliveira.
