    Financial journalism award increased

The Words on Money journalism award, which closes for entries on Friday 28 January 2011, has increased the prize money for this year's competition. The overall winner will receive R35 000, while each category winner, including the newcomer of the year, will each receive R10 000 from Citadel, a private client wealth management company.

"Considering the effect the global economic meltdown of 2008 and 2009 had on consumers and investors here and abroad, the role of media to inform and educate people about financial issues is now more crucial than ever," says Joe Bester, head of marketing and new initiatives at Citadel.

We want to encourage quality reporting on these issues, which is why the company launched the award in 2000 and decided to increase the prize money for the 2011 award. We are encouraged especially by the growing coverage of these issues in consumer and leisure media, as these reach a much wider audience than the specialist finance and business publications."

The Financial Planning Institute will continue its participation as a judge of the award, while seasoned business journalist and former deputy editor of Financial Mail, Michael Coulson, joins the 2011 judging panel.
