SABC board, management united to restore stability

The board and the group exco of the SABC met yesterday, Thursday, 8 May 2008, to deal with issues that have been “bedeviling” the organisation. According to a media statement released this morning, Friday 9 May, certain issues were addressed that management had earlier raised in a memo to the board.

“The meeting was characterised by frank and constructive exchanges. In the end the two sides agreed to work together to restore the credibility of and stability within the public broadcaster,” stated board chairperson Khanyi Mkhonza.

“In pursuit of that the meeting also agreed that due process will be followed as soon as possible to finalise investigations in relation to the GCEO and the GE: news and current affairs”, she added.

“The SABC board and management will, with immediate effect, embark on a series of meetings and a process of engagement with all levels of the organisation to allay concerns and restore the morale of staff. The board and management are grateful to the staff for their continued commitment to the organization and regrets any inconvenience inadvertently caused by the current challenges facing the cooperation,” Mkhonza concluded.
