Hlahla re-elected National Press Club chair

Patrick Hlahla of the Pretoria News was re-elected as chairman of the National Press Club – Pretoria at the club's executive committee meeting earlier this week. This will be Hlahla's third year as chairman of the club.

Elizabeth Kruger of the Daily Sun was also re-elected as the deputy chairperson. Martin van Niekerk of Junxion Communications was elected as the treasurer and Tanya de Vente of the Eastern News as the public relations officer.

The club's entire committee was retained for the next year. The other committee members are former chairman Ben Rootman, freelance journalist Eddie Mojapelo of the SABC, Esté Meyer of Rekord newspaper, Phillip Bruwer of Rekord newspaper, Daphney Kgwebane of the University of Limpopo, Abe Mokoka of UNISA and Cobus Claassen of Beeld.

Co-opted members serving on the committee are Shantall Ramatsui of the Agricultural Research Council and Reynold Thakhuli of the Tourism Business Council of South Africa.

In addition, Doreen Gough of Unisa, Shereen Maubane of the SABC and Marisa Engelbrecht of Solidariteit were newly elected to serve as co-opted members.

Junxion Communications will continue to serve as secretariat of the club.
