The loerie awards 2007 news
Loerie Awards comments on partial results leak

The Loerie Awards confirmed yesterday, Wednesday, 1 August 2007, that there had been a partial leak of certain award results in the run up to the festival weekend. According to a press statement, the results were not released on the Loeries website, but were captured through a Google indexing process and could be viewed via a cache of information stored on Google's website. This was a direct result of a software error. 1 Aug 2007 16:15

From Dirty Skirts to dirty secrets at Loeries

[Louise Marsland] The dirty little secret at Loeries this weekend, which no one wanted to really mention in public, but had plenty of opinion on privately, was the apparent inadvertent leaking of the list of Loerie awards results for most of the Saturday and Sunday night awards, by of all culprits – the Loerie committee itself. Loerie Awards MD Andrew Human called it an “IT error”, but industry folk were using much stronger language, with some award-winning creatives going so far as to call it a “disgusting oversight” which put a spoiler on the annual awards by taking away the element of surprise. 30 Jul 2007 13:23

Loeries ‘slick and professional' - Bizcommunity.com

[Louise Marsland] The organisation of the 29th annual Loeries on the ground this year was the most “slick and professional” operation in many years as Margate rolled out the red carpet and the weather played along, providing an oasis of warmth and sunlight from the weather-battered centres of Cape Town and Johannesburg. From a circus carnival atmosphere on the beachfront Sunday night courtesy of the SABC after party, to the Vodacom VIP lounge, the media centre at the Margate Hotel, to the Media24 Heat afterglow party Saturday night and the various private parties around town and brand activations, the organisation of the whole weekend was a significant success. 30 Jul 2007 11:47

Double Grand Prix for Sunday night Loeries

The Loerie festival weekend culminated in a show-stopping awards ceremony on Sunday evening, 29 July 2007, seeing two Grand Prix awarded and a total of 82 awards on the night. The Jupiter Drawing Room South Africa and Impact/BBDO, based in Dubai – a first for the awards - flew away with the two Grand Prix. 30 Jul 2007 10:03

Record Loerie awards Saturday

After a record number of entries and a strong set of finalists, the elite Loeries judging panel - comprising over 100 industry specialists - has awarded the Loeries, the industry's highest accolade, to 162 deserving winners. At Saturday night's award ceremony in Margate, there were three Grand Prix awarded to Grid, Lowe Bull Cape and Ogilvy SA. Ogilvy was the winner on the night with a total of 15 awards. 30 Jul 2007 10:02

Slick and sassy Saturday Loeries

[Louise Marsland] Despite the fact that by the second category it was evident that many people knew the results from the leaked Loerie list debacle last week, the Loeries this year – kicking off with Freshly Ground raising the metaphorical roof of the big top – was one of the slickest and most professional productions. Starting two hours earlier and herding everyone in one section of the awards venue for drinks worked, bringing the spontaneity and gaiety back to Loeries. 29 Jul 2007 13:08

Painting Margate red

[Louise Marsland] Bizcommunity.com rolled into Margate early on Friday, 27 July 2007, Ferrari in tow, to paint Margate red. The team, dressed in our brand colours with portable branded red carpets for our video interviews, were highly visible as we took over the Mugg & Bean on the beachfront – dubbed Loerie Laan for the duration – blogging and loading copy and pix from our table centre stage. 28 Jul 2007 12:54

Loeries blows into Margate - Bizcommunity.com

[Louise Marsland] Gale force winds and storms in Jozi and Cape Town couldn't keep them away, as the annual Loerie circus flew into Margate Friday night/Saturday morning. By 10am, Saturday, 28 July 2007, the Margate beachfront was pumping with branded and blinged-out advertising folk, another species compared to the local population who have rolled out the welcome mats – more slick year on year. And this is despite having had to contend with a beached whale earlier this week, a swim ban due to the hundreds of sharks feeding on said whale, high winds which resulted in the awards tent being evacuated Friday night during rehearsals, and an awards results leak scandal which could cause Loerie MD Andrew Human to go grey prematurely. 28 Jul 2007 12:48

Loerie Awards results feeding frenzy

[Louise Marsland] Bathing at the beaches around Margate, host to the most spectacular industry event annually, The Loerie Awards, has been banned due to a feeding frenzy by sharks on all the whale meat left behind when a beached whale was blown up mid-week. But that is nothing compared to the frenzy surrounding the inadvertent leaking of parts of The Loerie Awards results earlier this week due to an apparent IT glitch on the official Loerie website. 27 Jul 2007 15:34

Loerie prep in final stages

[Louise Marsland] Loerie event stagers H-Factor are hard at work putting the final touches to the big Loerie awards ceremonies Saturday and Sunday night in the mega tent structure above Margate on the Kwa-Zulu Natal coast. To watch the next installments of the big build up, click through to the website for Episodes four and five. Over the weekend all the rehearsals for the big nights will be captured – Bizcommunity.com, who have just landed in Durban with a 15 strong crew brings you real time video, vlogging, blogging, stories and all the gossip from Loeries this weekend! 27 Jul 2007 10:28

Delivering news with relish

[Louise Marsland] Beached whales, balmy weather (as long as the Cape cold front doesn't take a turn past the South Coast), parties galore, ecstatic winners, broken hearts, mullets, Margate and fast food 24/7, no ag pleeze daddy needed… what more could one want from the annual Loerie show? It's all there in the shinest bling affordable. Bizcommunity.com is arriving Friday, look out for us all dressed up in our trademark red. Morrisjones&co did a nice little ad for their client Wimpy to set the scene for the weekend which will be flighted at Durban airport. Take a look. 27 Jul 2007 09:05

Mobilista's survival kit for Loeries - Mobilety

[Harry Trisos] The Loeries is an annual event that celebrates and recognises great advertising. Some do however claim that it is more about the drugs, sex and rock-and-roll… of marketing. For those intrepid souls who are trekking down to Margate for the weekend - here are a few tips on what to DO and what NOT TO DO with your cell phones this weekend. 27 Jul 2007 07:59

Margate is ready and waiting…

[Louise Marsland] The tent is up, the bar counters are newly shined and the kids are excited! Margate is almost ready for Loeries this weekend, if the video diary from H-Factor, who are again staging Loeries this year, is anything to go by. The weather blows hot and cold – we'll only really know what it's going to do on the night, as they say! Bring yer thermal baggies just in case! 26 Jul 2007 10:37
