[John French] The annual office year-end party is usually where some of the craziest communication of the year takes place. Colleagues are usually beyond drained and exhausted at this time of the year and yet over-jubilant and excited at the same time.
[John French] Poor communication costs South African businesses billions of rands every year. South Africa has a corporate communication landscape shaped by 11 official languages and a myriad of different cultures with their own ways of communicating and expressing themselves.
[John French] When tsunamis hit, you can't choose to avoid the wave. Some things in life are simply bigger than us all and they sweep us away with their global power and revolutionary force. The exploding digital age is creating a communication revolution far greater than you or I could have imagined.
[John French] It was American comedian Jerry Seinfeld who observed: "According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that seem right? That means to the average person, if you have to go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy."
[John French] Does cold calling leave you cold? Most people end up freezing when they are faced with the terrifying prospect of trying to sell something to a stranger on the other side of the phone.
[John French] 'Who shot JR?' pales in comparison to the current epic media maelstrom on whether Nelson Mandela is alive or not. Is he alive? Will he survive this near death experience? No one really knows, but just about everybody is debating it.
