Giles Shepherd commented on Frankie's vs Woolies: score one to the little guy
Nicely handled Willem. Soon as you graciously handled your error, the comments began talking about the actual subject matter. A good set of laughs though!

An excellent tribute Chris - well done. Written in precisely the style John would have appreciated.

Giles Shepherd commented on SA, Africa's most valuable nation brand
Is this at all credible? Given that you simply can't sell a nation brand, can it really be valued in monetary terms? We can understand the potential benefit by valuing a corporate or product brand, but who could be gaining anything by estimating these 'values'?

Giles Shepherd commented on Is the presenter the brand? Can the 702 brand be damaged by John Robbie's personal bias?
Oh dear, Ken. Over all the many years of John Robbie's radio years, are we really to believe that this is the one issue that has caused you to 'go public' about your opposition to his views? Or could we, perhaps, imagine that you are personally affected in this instance by something that has happened and his views, and have chosen YOUR available media outlet to get at him? Ken - what, pray tell us, has this matter got anything to do with the former minister of health, let alone the first name issue (which holds a far greater weight and discussion than you assign it here)? There is no link whatsoever between your opening 'idea' and the bleat that is the substance of your piece. Ken, I have been a colleague of yours over many years - one that respects you -and also of John's. But you have used your personal and business brands to have a silly, personal rant here, and you have let both down.

Giles Shepherd commented on Doom and gloom and the inevitable boom
Agree - it's so easy to spell with technology these days, there is no excuse. But on the point, South African industry has side-stepped the global financial crisis this festive season. Retailers have had a boom season - New Clicks is up 13% overall year on year, despite a depression in Xmas sales in Musica (considered a luxury 'fringe' purchase). F*&k this idea we should be awaiting the cold because America sneezed. Let's rather tell America how to avoid hay-fever. We sure know how. Stop paying any attention to the dooses over there, and continue recognising what an incredible, entrepreneurial and dynamic society we live in.

Yo - just coz u'r a dziner dozn't mean u shuld not b able ta SPELL! 'oppertunities'?? C'mon man. Don't let the side down. Nice feedback, but we're all in the brand communication business, and spelling and attention to detail are fundamental. (right click on mouse for spelling suggestions, by the way. It's that easy.)

Giles Shepherd commented on Mpofu gets the chop from SABC board
Despite lots of speculation, there is absolutely nothing - not even a smidgen - of politics in any of this. It is entirely corporate, clean, and of the highest order of corporate governance. Simply put, Mr Mpofu was not good at the job, and has been removed. Any suggestions that people playing power games, advancing their own interests and those of government ministers, are entirely without substance. Because I say so, and so does 'Hugo Zulu' (guess where HE stands politically) before me, and no doubt so do very many after this. Now, back to my discussion on the moon landing hoax . . .

Giles Shepherd commented on Sunday Times leverages most valuable asset
Thank God for this. It is high time we were given an alternative to the utter rubbish that is The Star, the pathetic Citizen and the other dailies that churn out terribly written rot. And if the Sunday Times assets are used for this venture - most particularly its journalistic ones - we can look forward to some real, quality daily reporting. There is no doubt that I will buy it - looking forward to it.

Giles Shepherd commented on ‘This is my job,’ By a Journalist
So you gather every item of news and interest you publish by your own greefields research, interviewing and insight, do you? Or are you venting spleen because you hate the fact that you have to sift through the material that is sent to you and determine what suits your preference - ie: actually work for the stories? Grow up. You need a new job, as suspected.
