At the recent 2007 Swiss International Airlines Wine Awards, which judges wines on international standards in order to expose South African wines and winemakers to major local and international retail chains, Backsberg won Gold for its Babylons Toren Viognier 2005 and Silver for its John Martin Sauvignon Blanc 2007, and Kango Winery's Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Shiraz 2006 blend won both Gold and was selected as the best-value red under R60. The Kango Winery Rijckshof Red Muscadel also received Silver, as well as Bronze for its white in the same range.
