On Saturday, 11 April 2009, there will be an attempt to bake the biggest hot cross bun in the world at the CapeGate Shopping Centre. The record-breaking attempt starts on Friday evening with Wynand du Plessis of Extreem Kwizeen Catering taking up the challenge. All ingredients are sponsored by Trade Centre CapeGate. The giant hot cross bun should be ready by about 3pm on Saturday 11 April and chunks will be sold to the public at R2 each, with all monies going to the Animal Anti-Cruelty League.
