Radio discourse with tshepiso
intellectualising the theater of the mind///////subject:music in radio stations

well it is quite refreshing i must say to read this forums because one get a chance to understand and hear different opinion's where matters of radio are concerned, and i must emphasize this most of all this forums whethere you disagree with what people are saying or you agree is neither here or there, the point i am making is this is great because is shows a huge passion for radio and we should be at least happy for that.

yep so i see the focus most of the time is on the prime slots can we focus a bit on the music managers since i presume they have a mandate to playlist good songs/music on radio, man my beef is all the radio stations dont seem to care enough in terms of what music gets to played on radio, you know how many times i come accross passionate individuals who would tell you that they cant stomach radio only because the music they play is nonsese and that goes for all radio stations even those that think they push the boundries, let's take for example Kaya fm they are a cosmopolitan/afrocentric adult contemporary radio station with a target market on who?find out for yourself, but take time listen to how they playlist their songs man ish they play commercial rubbish music, even if they play our local songs the music team dont seem to have a clue of the tight local artist that they can play, the is a dude who goes by the name Tlale Makgele he is a percussionist damm is he super awesome and the list of our relevant artist who do not seem to get any attention from our music managers is endless, mind you before you attack me i am not reffering to crab/mediocre ones most of the guys who i am reffering to are super talented, but they are still being ignored,at the risk of repeating myself this is not to encourage dissing people but to engage the masses so that we may move foward.

I hear that to be a music manager for a radio station one needs to be in the know about music and not only S.A music for that matter but music in general, then the question remains why are we getting a lot of awfull music in this stations,5 fm/Metro,Kaya,Y,highveld stereo, jacaranda the list is endless, you know if i can bring it closer to your understanding artist such as Akon,Chris brown get a lot of aritime man on all of the above mentioned stations i still cant comprehend the reason why,but remember you do get shows that ah boy just kills it with not so commercial music and we have to compliment them so if you know of such shows in radio that try that tactic big up to them.
