By Leigh Andrews

SA’s Cannes Lions 2017 success and paving the way for new world leadership - Mon, 26 Jun 2017Just a week later and the dust has settled on Cannes Lions 2017. We have a full list of the total tally per SA agency as well as all the winners - most importantly, Ogilvy Joburg scooped up the radio Grand Prix for its KFC Double down ‘Sad Man Meal' campaign, as well as SA's first director to win a Grand Prix. This went to Egg Films' director Terence Neale for Adidas Originals 'Original is Never Finished', largely shot in South Africa for New York agency Johannes Leonardo with RSA Films, and taking home top honours in the ‘Entertainment for Music' category. Egg Films' Dan Mace also won his third Young Director Award in two years, with Silver in the Broadcast category for the Here's To The Us In Every Tusker ad he directed in Kenya with Groundglass for Net#work BBDO. While the official Cannes Festival of Creativity week is over we'll still be featuring SA's top performers for their secrets to success. Visit our Cannes Lions special section for all the latest updates!

With advertising success top of mind, market research specialist Mike Broom explains a new measurement paradigm that is ideal for ad testing as it demystifies exactly which dimensions to measure through a practical, accurate and innovative method.

Broadening the scope to media innovation, Jessica Tennant chats to philosopher, Kaya FM radio host and writer Kojo Baffoe, newly announced editor of the Afropolitan magazine. Click through for what he envisions in the next chapter of the magazine as well as what ended his dream of running in the Olympics and curious policy of reading for a minimum of 15 minutes every night before going to bed - reading several books at the same time as he does.

Switching focus to marketing leadership in the new world, Danette Breitenbach reports back on Dr Andrew Brough's (a chartered marketer CM(SA) and international leadership and organisational development expert) session at the recent recent Marketing Association of South Africa masterclass. Click through for the four styles of influence and why these are important as we move from brand to reputation leadership.

We also continue our #YouthMonth content focus - Charles Siboto writes: “...adults are breaking the world and this #YouthMonth I think it's appropriate to share some good news of young people getting their #hustle on, improving their lives and that of their communities.” Lots to learn from and reflect on as we move towards the second half of the year.
