The social World Cup

Every World Cup seems to become more and more social. The World Cup was without a doubt the King of Social TV. Where broadcast would not entertain the likes of the final match's streaker, it was easily found by Twitter and Instagram search - http://instagram.com/p/qZ7NuCCTLO. You all thought that Bastian Schweinsteiger and Lukas Podolski was the only Man2Man action Germany got in the final. Germany's Benedikt Hoewedes got some lovely man love from the streaker who painted the word "prankster" on his belly - http://hollywoodlife.com/2014/07/13/world-cup-final-match-streaker/.

Ipsos presents new thinking on share of wallet

In a time when the economy is so volatile, it is important to understand customers' spending patterns. "Focussing on retaining customers alone does not have a big enough impact on a company's bottom line," states Rentia Kramer, Head of Ipsos Loyalty in South Africa. Even though your brand could be receiving high satisfaction and recommendation ratings from customers, it could still be losing sales if customers are more satisfied with, and more likely to recommend, a competitor. It is valuable and important to measure how happy your customers are and how likely they would be to recommend your brand, however it doesn't shed any light on how customers are dividing their spending between your brand and its competitors.

The selfie

Selfies are all the rage... but it is tempting to dismiss them as a passing fad, or worse, yet another example of a narcissistic society obsessed with instant gratification and instantaneous fame. But the selfie is important because it is not just a portrait of ourselves, but a portrait of our times as well.

From collecting water to connecting the world

"You don't understand what you have until it is taken away from you." And with it, my connection to text messages, emails, the internet, and social media.

Africa's first focused trade fair for furniture, décor and design has launched

On 10 July, the doors seamlessly opened to what promises to continue to be the most important decor, furniture and retail event on the African continent. This was the inaugural Inspire Trade Expo, which ran until 12 July 2014 and was the brainchild of expo genius Rina Fortmann, who was not only a director of SARCDA for many years, but who also chaired EXSA (Exhibition Association Of Southern Africa). This show was a properly controlled trade show where every single visitor had to pass a host of stringent criteria in order to be allowed access, due to the focus being on quality trade visitors instead of thousands of consumers.
