'Tipton Three' film exclusive to Cinema Nouveau

Acclaimed director Michael Winterbottom's new film The Road to Guantanamo, part drama part documentary on the "Tipton Three", is scheduled for exclusive release at Cinema Nouveau screened by Jameson next Friday, 17 November 2006.

The "Tipton Three", as they were dubbed by media, are a trio of young British Muslims who were detained in Guantanamo Bay (off the coast of Cuba) for two years until they were released without charge in 2004. Their controversial story caused ripples throughout international politics at the height of the "War on Terror" and also sparked fierce protest amongst human rights groups worldwide.

Cinema Nouveau's release of the film follows on a premiere screening of the film at Cinema Nouveau screened by Jameson, V&A Waterfront (Cape Town) attended by Ruahl Ahmed and Asif Iqbal - two of the real-life "Tipton Three". The third member of the group, Shafiq Rasul, refused to travel for fear of further intimidation after the group was again detained inexplicably at Birmingham International Airport on their way to South Africa.

The Road to Guantanamo will be released at Cinema Nouveau screened by Jameson - Cavendish Square (Cape Town), Rosebank (Johannesburg) and Brooklyn (Pretoria) on 17 November.
