Nando's new Peri Deli

From the brand that has become synonymous with Peri Peri comes the Peri Deli - a niche brand, smaller-format, contemporary Nando's store that sells freshly prepared grab-and-go fast food.

Nando's has partnered with Vida-e Caffe to cater for trendsetting upper LSM consumers who are looking for a high-value environment to suit their fast-paced lifestyles. The deli will not be going mainstream to cater for the masses, but is aimed at niche market LSM 8 - 10, one of the reasons there haven't been any adverts marketing the concept. Nor is the deli intended to clash with Nando's quirky brand personality - Peri Deli will allow Nando's better distribution through establishing smaller outlets with a take-away focus in high foot-traffic areas.

So far, there are only two Peri Delis that have been opened; plans are underway to open three more stores by the end of the year.

The company recently invited journalists to Rivonia to give them a taste and feel of the deli. The mouth-watering food offerings ranges from egg- and chicken-mayo to Tabouleh, Humus and olives.

According to Martin Venter, Peri Deli brand leader, “Peri Deli is rooted in the values of passion, quality and magical Peri-Peri that originally defined Nando's. Naturally Nando's flame grilled Peri-Peri chicken is the classic on the menu, complemented by fabulous variety of freshly prepared foods. We decided to call in the professionals to ensure that our entire food offering delivers on expectations.”

“Peri Deli is all about honest, delicious and innovative grab and go food - freshly prepared and flavoured with our magical ingredient Peri-Peri,” explains Venter. “We only use the finest, freshest ingredients - our chickens are free range and never frozen; we source organic wherever possible. We are working on long-term relationships with suppliers who share our sustainable philosophies, because we, without fail, search for the freshest produce around.

“We are working on partnering with small developing businesses to grow together. Yes, not only are we doing our bit for the growth of small business in SA, we can safely say that our ingredients come directly from the source - or as close to it as possible.”

The store design and concept is contemporarily styled to create a vibrant Mediterranean environment. The combination of materials, such as screed and wood, as well as plastic and glass, creates a design contrast that is aesthetically pleasing without being cold and clinical.
