OC hands over to SAFA

All assets and liabilities of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee (OC) have been assumed by the South African Football Association (SAFA), as the OC wound up its business on 30 June 2011.

"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the work done by all involved with the OC; the chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, the CEO, Dr Danny Jordaan, board members and everyone who contributed to make sure we hosted the most memorable FIFA World Cup," said SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani.

"We made a profit and this legacy will benefit several generations to come; part of it will drive soccer development in all of the 52 SAFA Regions."

As part of the legacy, the association will complete the delivery of artificial pitches to all 52 Regions and has procured 52 vehicles and 21-seater buses for all of its the regions for delivery later this year.

"Because of the 2010 success, the association is on a better financial footing than ever before," concluded Nematandani.
