Social media at SANGONeT October conference

The 2009 SANGONeT ‘ICTs for Civil Society' Conference will be held in two parts; from 15-16 October at Turbine Hall in Newtown, Johannesburg and 20-21 October at the River Club in Observatory, Cape Town. The winners of the South African NGO Web Awards 2009 will be announced during the two events. Registration fees - NGOs, CBOs and academia, R950 (incl VAT), government and private sector, R1700 (incl VAT)

The 2009 event will focus on the relevance of social media tools to the South African NGO sector. The key features of social media are participation and interaction, connecting people and providing the tools necessary to have a conversation, all-important components of NGOs' day-to-day work.

The conference programme will be strategically informed by the findings of the 2009 "State of ICTs in the South African NGO Sector" research project, which SANGONeT is implementing in conjunction with World Wide Worx.

Are you a Facebook or Twitter user? Do you blog? Do you raise money through the Internet? Are you using mobile phones strategically in your work? Are you using online tools in your advocacy activities or do you simply have an interest in finding out more about social media?

The SANGONeT conference will explore these issues by drawing on the experience of local and international experts, showcasing innovative projects, facilitating the transfer of skills and reflecting on NGOs' future technology needs and requirements.
